The Akai MPK Mini Mk2 is designed for the travelling musician or producer who doesn’t want to compromise on functionality, with hardware controls giving the mobile capacity to record, compose, and perform with virtual instruments, effect plug-ins, and DAWs anywhere, anytime.
Controls that are included with the Akai MPK Mini Mk2 include:
- 25 velocity-sensitive synth-action keys
- 4-way dynamic pitch and modulation thumbstick
- 8 backlit velocity-sensitive MPC-style pads (with 2 banks expanding the number to 16)
- 8 assignable Q-Link knobs
Although equipped with just 25-keys (to keep the size down), the Akai MPK Mini Mk2 encompasses the full melodic range, thanks to the inclusion of dedicated Octave Up and Down buttons. Complementing this perfectly there is also a sustain pedal input, allowing for more expressive playing. Melodies can be easily created with the controller’s onboard arpeggiator, which includes resolution, range, and modes parameters.
Plug and Play Functionality
For true plug-and-play capability, the Akai MPK Mini Mk2 requires no external power (as power is supplied via USB from your Mac or PC) and no software drivers. So you don’t have to set it up every time, there are four memory banks, where you can store hardware/software presets, ready to be recalled instantly.
The Akai MPK Mini Mk2 comes bundled with a collection of free software and virtual instruments, these are: AIR Music Tech’s Hybrid 3, SONiVOX’s Wobble, and MPC Essentials, along with the MPK mini MIDI Editor.
The MPK mini MIDI Editor preset management software allows you to customise the Akai MPK Mini Mk2 software/hardware setup to suit your needs. With this you can create, alter and store presets for virtual instruments, plug-ins, and DAWs.
