Akai have done it again with the new MPX16, creating an incredibly powerful, easily transportable and solidly reliable sample recorder and player in one gorgeous package.
As the name suggests, you can readily sample clips and sounds using the built in stereo microphone on the fly, so you never miss out on an opportunity. There are also dual 6.3mm inputs, which allow you to record at CD-quality so you have studio or stage-ready samples wherever you go. You can easily load existing samples onto an SD card and simply use the MPX16 as a high-quality trigger device. Akai have included software that makes sample management even easier.
Clips can be assigned to any one of the highly responsive 16 velocity-sensitive trigger pads. The pads can be used to launch samples, as well as applying a variety of effects including: tuning, filters, envelopes and "choke" grouping; to add your own personal touch to each and every performance. Effects are applied very smoothly and thanks to the velocity-sensitive design, the nuances of your technique are represented in exquisite detail.
The MPX16 is a USB-MIDI capable device that has MIDI Input and Output jacks, which allow you to integrate it into pretty much any MIDI setup as an awesome controller and/or sample bank.
Each pad illuminates to give you ready visual-feedback. Working in partnership with the excellently appointed LCD screen, the MPX16 provides excellent visual cues and feedback for times when you're playing in a dark club.
You need not worry if you forget the included power supply, as the MPX16 may be powered solely from an available USB port.
The beauty of the MPX16 is that you can use it as a stand-alone sample trigger without having to rely on having a computer hooked up to it. Thanks to the SD card functionality you can effectively: leave the house, record something direct to the SD card, then use that sample when you get to the gig - very simple, very quick, extremely effective. As you'd expect from Akai, this unit is built endure all the punishment that comes with life on the road. It is a must-have for performers and producers everywhere.
