Part of Ampeg’s redesigned BA Series, the Ampeg BA-110 Bass Amplifier has received a full overhaul, improving everything from the electronics and features, to the positioning of the control panel and even the shape of enclosure itself!
The smaller BA-108 and BA-110 are ideal for practice just about anywhere. They are lightweight for portability and offer a headphone output for silent practice as well as aux input for playing along with a smartphone or iPad.- Ric Rawlins (musicradar.com)
A Small but Powerful Wedge
The second smallest model of the series, you could be forgiven for thinking that this wasn’t a particularly powerful amp, but you will be very pleased with your mistake. With 40 watts of RMS power pushing a 10-inch Ampeg Custom8 speaker, the Ampeg BA110 Bass Amplifier is something of a mini-monster. An exceptionally capable practice, rehearsal, and studio amp, you could also push the unit to play small venues.
It is easy to use this amp for the variety of aforementioned applications as, despite its power, it is compact and lightweight. The dimensions come in at 18.8 x 16 x 13 (Inches)/ 478 x 406 x 330 (mm), while it weighs just 15.4 kg / 34 lbs. In addition this model is wedge-shaped; giving a 60-degree monitoring angle. This offers up the ideal listening angle, ensuring you can enjoy every nuance of the glorious Ampeg tone on offer here.
Another improvement over the original series is the positioning of the control and feature panel, which has been shifted to the front of the amplifier, for easy access. This is where you’ll find with an all-new feature of the Ampeg BA 110 Version 2 Bass Amplifier, the Bass Scrambler.
This feature gives you access to the on-board overdrive circuit that allows you to swing from a mild overdriven SVT sound to all-out, blow-your-face-off distortion. This circuitry consists of two controls to gain the required affect: Drive, to adjust the amount of overdrive, and Blend, to blend the amount of the effect you want with your dry signal, there is also an LED that lights green when the circuit is active.
Also at the control panel is a Volume control, accompanied by a 3-band EQ, and a -15dB input pad switch. The pad switch allows you to easily reduce the input signal by -15dB; essential when using active and high-output pickups.
Built-in Practice Tools
The Ampeg BA-110 Bass Amplifier offers practice-specific features that make learning and rehearsal that much easier. You can connect your external audio player via the relevant AUX inputs (¼-inch or 1/8-inch), to jam along to your favourite music or backing tracks, and this also has its own level control so it doesn’t interfere with the volume of your bass.
Along with this there is also a 1/8-inch headphone output, which cuts off speaker output when it is engaged, so you can practice without disturbing anyone else.
