The largest of the Portaflex Series, the Ampeg PF-800 Bass Guitar Amplifier Head offers the same charming vintage design, accented by modern features. This model combines the incredibly rich feature set of the PF-500, with its extensive control and versatility connectivity options, and pushes it further with an earth-shaking 800-watt power output rating.
Massive Power, in a Tiny Box
Contemporary features in combination with vintage cool provides the signature of the series, and this is particularly apparent with the Ampeg PF-800 Portaflex Bass Amp Head; giving you the best of old and new in an incredibly powerful, versatile, and compact box.
Along with being small, the amp head is also lightweight, weighting just 11.8 lbs / 5.35 kg. Talking of being compact, it partners up perfectly with Ampeg’s fliptop cabinets. This feature allows the amp head to securely connect to the lid of the cab, which can then be flipped upside down and placed back on the cabinet, storing the head inside the cab; keeping things neat and easy to transport.
As previously mentioned, the Ampeg PF-800 Portaflex Bass Amp Head may be small but to say it packs a punch is an absolute understatement. With a MOSFET preamp with a Class-D power amp, this unassuming little box blasts out a whopping 800-watts!
With an exceptionally detailed control layout, the Ampeg PF 800 is bursting with options. The following controls are under your command: Gain, bass, 5-position mid-tone, treble, volume, FX mix, compression, gain, ultra hi/lo boosts, footswitchable mute, ground lift, 0dB (line level)/-40 dB (mic level) switch, and a Post-EQ/Pre-EQ switch.
Multiple Connectivity Options
Along with the massive arsenal of controls that the Ampeg PF-800 Portaflex Bass Guitar Amplifier comes equipped with, the same attention has been paid to the unit’s connectivity options.
Separate speakon and ¼” TS output jacks give you options for connecting up to a speaker cabinet, offering a rated power output of 800-watts rms into 4 ohms, or 400-watts rms into 8 ohms. Additionally, a balance XLR output, negates the need to mic up your speaker cab, as you can directly connect to an external mixer or recorder.
The FX send and FX return allow you to send your signal through effects pedals and return the processed signal back to the head amp. There is also an audio input and headphone output for silent practice, along with preamp out, power amp in, and footswitch connection options.
