Our guitar lessons predominantly use material pertaining to the Trinity Rock & Pop and Trinity College (Classical) exam syllabuses, while also allowing teachers to use their own expertise to introduce other repertoire and methods of learning suitable for the various ages and ability of the students.
Lessons have a well-rounded form, making time to work on both modern and classic songs, technique, improvisation, theory, reading, rhythms and aural practice. The students work in groups of up to eight, allowing them the wonderful experience of playing music alongside other people.
Students normally work towards taking a grade from the Trinity Rock & Pop or Trinity College syllabus and, if they wish, will be able to showcase their work at performances throughout the year. Both of these tools work as great incentives to learning.
Paul Anderson BA (Hons)
Paul has been playing guitar now for over 27 years, and in January 2015 finished two and a half years of performing as a solo classical, Spanish and jazz guitarist on the 6-Star Cruise Line Seabourn. Prior to this he spent four years working as a professional musician in London, performing on his own and also with a great variety of bands and styles in venues including Wembley Arena and the BBC.
Having returned to land he continues to play professionally – he has formed a Spanish Guitar Trio and a Jazz-funk Quartet alongside doing regular function and session work.
Over and above being a performer and studio-musician, Paul is of course a keen educator. He has taught classical and electric guitar for over 13 years in education services including Leicestershire Arts in Education, London Brent Music Services and Bolton Music Services.
On moving to Manchester he joined the well-established and highly successful guitar department at Dawson’s Music School in Altrincham where he puts his wide-ranging experience of music education and diverse performing career into practice. Alongside the Trinity College syllabus he has developed his own curriculum that focuses not only grade-exams but also musicianship, technical ability and working well with other musicians, ideal for those who do not wish to pursue the exam route and wish to play for sheer personal enjoyment.

Book Your Free Trial Guitar Lesson at Dawsons Altrincham
Submit your details above and someone will contact you within 2 working days to arrange your free trial guitar lesson.
Your free trial guitar lesson will last approximately 30-45 minutes and gives a taster of the course. We will also explain the cost of the lessons and advise of available lesson times.
Free Trial Lessons (FTL) are open to anyone (providing they are above the minimum age) so it really is NEVER too late to learn. All of our guitar teachers have adult classes and in some cases operate mixed age classes so we really do have something for everyone.
Where a prospective student has previous experience the guitar teacher may offer a free one-to-one consultation instead of a FTL, with a view to putting the student into an already existing guitar class.
Please note that free trial guitar lessons take place when there are enough students to fill a group, this may mean your details being kept on a waiting list until the next available FTL. Some of our music schools only offer lessons during term-time, where this is the case FTLs are held in term-time.
Free taster guitar lessons are available to those who are not already existing students of Dawsons Music School. A taster guitar lesson will be held by arrangement with the teacher providing the student is above the minimum age for the relevant course.
