Child Line Rocks Guitar Challenge – Be Part of a Guinness World Record Attempt

Child Line Rocks

Child line Rocks is gathering 7000 guitarists for 4 record attempts, and you could be one of them…

There are gigs where you spend hours packing the bands gear, then unpacking it at the other end, playing an amazing gig, then packing up and driving home. Then, when the money is split 5-ways, it’s generally not a huge amount, but hey, we’re in it for the love, not the money so it’s all worth it. Now, imagine the band wasn’t five people but 7,000. And rather than a ‘cut’, it was going to cost £30.

Before you start saying ‘I don’t pack my kit up for less than 5 pints’, this isn’t a standard gig. This is in fact an attempt at breaking 4 (and possibly 5…) guitar related Guinness world records, organised by the Charity Organisation, Child line Rocks.

You could be a record breaker – #Dedications is all you need…#

Child line Rocks was originally started as a huge gig to raise money for Childline. Since then, it has ‘spread its wings’ a little, with numerous concerts and memorabilia auctions raising thousands for the charity organisation. The Child line Rocks Guitar Challenge is a new endeavour for them, however.

Sponsored by Marshall and Yamaha, its aims are simple: gather 7,000 guitarists in the Coventry Ricoh Arena, and attempt the following World Records, with a Guinness official on hand to adjudicate:

  • THE LARGEST AIR GUITAR ENSEMBLE
  • THE LARGEST MUSIC LESSON
  • THE LARGEST GUITAR ENSEMBLE
  • THE LARGEST ENSEMBLE OF AMPLIFIED GUITARS
  • PLUS, AN ATTEMPT AT THE FASTEST GUITARIST IN THE WORLD

Entry is £30, with all participants receiving a free Marshall MS-2 portable amp (making it, already, better paid than many gigs…), and those taking part are encouraged to raise sponsorship by setting up their own Just Giving account.

Can you think of a better cause than Child Line Rocks? I’m struggling… Can you think of a better way to show that it’s all about the love and not the money? Absolutely not. Can you get to the Coventry Ricoh Arena on October 14th? Then you’re in for a fun afternoon -apparently, celebrity guitarists will be appearing throughout the day.. The aim is to raise £250,000 for Child Line, and entry Details can be found here.

You’ll need to take your own guitar and lead. Air guitars however, will be provided. So what are you waiting for? #…so you wanna be a REC-ORD BREAK-ER, yeah!#
