Electro Harmonix Crying Tone Pedal – It’s Pretty Tough…

Electro Harmonix Crying Tone

The Electro Harmonix Crying tone gets run over by a car, and lives to cry another day…

The Electro Harmonix Crying Tone Wah is undoubtedly one of the most interesting guitar effects to appear in recent months. This wah pedal manages to ‘sidestep’ the issue of worn out pots and gears, by having no moving parts whatsoever. The solution is always simple when you think about it… (!)

To demonstrate just how robust this pedal is, a Youtube reviewer has released a video that shows the pedal being run over by a car, with no discernable change in sound quality, and very little physical damage to the unit. Impressed? You should be…

Amazing tone – No moving parts

If you haven’t seen the Electro Harmonix Crying Tone before, allow me to explain what it’s about… The traditional, mechanical wah pedal is a great thing, but as it is moved and adjusted a lot (by virtue of the way it is used), the mechanical parts such as the gears and pots, eventually wear out.

The Crying tone has no moving parts whatsoever, and is simply a ‘rocker’ design with no base. EHX has been very ‘tight-lipped’ about the technology involved, unsurprisingly. However, it seems to have very little effect on the performance of the pedal, and it is quite staggeringly robust.

As you may expect, the Electro Harmonix Crying Tone has the kind of tone and quality that EHX are famed for (and clearly, their brand of quirky innovation too).

Here’s another video that shows some of the tonal variety you can expect from the Crying Tone, when not driving a car over it…
