The Epiphone Tobias Toby Deluxe IV Bass reintroduces a classic bass range
The Epiphone Tobias Toby Deluxe IV Bass marks the return of the Toby bass range, which first appeared 2 decades ago. Designed by master luthier, Michael Tobias, the new Epiphone models are based on his original designs. Featuring many of the design features that have seen the originals become legendary, including the famous asymmetrical, bolt on, hard maple neck, and distinctive basswood body, the Toby Deluxe IV adds the Active Tonexpressor control, which allows the user to blend between its two pickups.
Tobias Asymmetrical neck profile
The Epiphone Tobias Toby Deluxe IV Bass is equipped with unique features that are purely of Michael Tobias’ design. Not least of these is the neck. This bolt on design is constructed of hard maple, with a rosewood fingerboard and recessed bolts for easy adjustment. ‘Nothing out of the ordinary there’, you may say. However, the neck features a Tobias Asymmetrical neck profile. This provides a neck that is slimmer on the lower side than the upper side, for a slimmer, more comfortable feel, but without sacrificing strength, stability and tone.
The Toby Deluxe IV features a solid basswood body, with the distinctive, curved and comfortable body shape of the original models. The bass is available in a choice of four transparent finishes (amber, black, red and walnut), revealing the subtle figuring of the wood beneath. The black hardware featured on the bass compliments the finishes beautifully, with a flush-mount, low profile adjustable bridge, deluxe tuners knurled dome knobs.
Two pickups are fitted to the Epiphone Tobias Toby Deluxe IV Bass. These are Tobias SCR and SCT single-coils, and are wired with a neck volume control, pickup blend control, master EQ control, and active Tonexpressor control. The Blend and Tonexpressor add enormous versatility to the guitar, allowing a huge variety of tones to be dialled in, with more ‘edge’ where required to cut through the mix.
