The Fender Mustang Floor – the first guitar multi-effects unit with the legendary Fender name
The Fender Mustang Floor is, perhaps, the most surprising announcement from Fender this January. Remarkably, this is Fender’s first ever guitar multi-effects unit, a fact that is perhaps more surprising than the announcement of the product itself. Based on Fender ‘s Mustang amp modelling technology, it offers a massive range of amp models and effects, for use in live situations or recording.
Fender Fuse Compatible
The Fender Mustang Floor is designed around a familiar, elongated floor-mount design. On the front panel, nine footswitches feature, with an expression pedal to the right. Alongside instrument level outputs, low impedance outputs allow a ‘speaker emulated’ output to be sent directly to a PA rig, line level outputs for use with more power amps, and headphone connection, for those late night moments of inspiration.
Beneath the surface, as mentioned above, the Mustang Floor is based on Fender ‘s acclaimed Mustang amp modelling technology. On-board, 12 amp models and 37 effects are available, with 100 factory and user presets. The range of amps, effects and presets is already extensive, but with a unit like this, the real strength is in its ability to create user presets. In this respect, the Fender Mustang Floor is well equipped, as it is compatible with the Fender Fuse software common to the Mustang and G-Dec range. When the unit is connected to a computer via its USB socket, this software package allows detailed editing of all patches, via an easy to understand graphical interface. In addition, it allows presets to be stored on the host computer, easy swapping of presets with other users via an online community, and entitles the user to free artist presets.
In addition to its live performance credentials, the Fender Mustang Floor is a capable USB recording interface, and for practice, an auxiliary line input allows iPods or MP3 players to be plugged in, and played along with.
They may be latecomers to this particular party, but with the Fender Mustang Floor, Fender have created an effects unit with broad appeal to live performers, home players and recording musicians alike, and the Fuse technology should ensure it has a very long, usable life.
