The Fender Pawn Shop Offset Special is as unusual as it is, er… special
The Fender Pawn Shop Offset Special is another new model in the popular Pawn Shop range. Whereas most of the guitars in this range are clearly inspired by, and share features with classic Fender guitar models, the Offset Special ‘s ancestry is a bit less obvious. However, as the range is inspired by the sometimes weird and wonderful prototypes of the ‘60s and ‘70s, this guitar is a ‘thoroughbred’ example. With an ‘offset’ hollow body, complete with F-shaped sound hole and other features cribbed from a variety of other Fender models, this is a leftfield beauty.
Jazzmaster Humbuckers
The Pawn Shop Offset Special has a set of features you wouldn’t expect to find on a Fender guitar. Well, a single Fender guitar at least. To kick off, the pickups are JZHB Jazzmaster humbuckers. These deliver powerful, thick overdriven tones, and creamy, warm clean tones.
The Offset Special ‘s Jazzmaster inspired features don’t end there, either. The bridge is an Adjusto-Matic vintage style model with floating Tremolo Tailpiece, much like a (you guessed it) Jazzmaster. Visually, it looks like no other Fender guitar I can think of, however. The lack of a scratch plate and retro style pots add further to the vintage vibe.
The Fender Pawnshop Offset Special has a body shape that is reminiscent of a Stratocaster, but a slightly offset waist, a bit like a Jaguar, Jazzmaster or Mustang. The guitar’s body is constructed of alder, and semi-hollow too, making it even more of an oddity. In the nicest possible way, of course… The neck featured is a maple, 21-fret design, with a ‘60s ‘C’ profile. With a scale length of 25.5”, and an oversized headstock, this is, once again, very much like a Jazzmaster.
