Dweezil registers a Gibson Frank Zappa Tribute SG prototype with Theguitarvaults…
The Gibson Frank Zappa Tribute SG might well turn out to be one of the most sought after tribute models that Gibson has ever produced. Its potential existence was revealed earlier this week, when son Dweezil registered a prototype on guitar registration website. Theguitarvaults. Dweezil is an endorsee of this website (which aims to provide a community to track stolen guitars) and was involved in its launch a short time ago.
It seems his endorsement was genuine, and not just as a ‘celebrity face’ for this new venture. The guitar he has revealed is an exact replica of Frank’s ‘Roxy Era’ SG. Nice.
The most famous SG player ever?
There are few more recognisable SG players then Frank Zappa. Gibson’s ‘trouble maker’ guitar was a perfect match for Zappa’s innovative, progressive and occasionally controversial compositions.
The Gibson Frank Zappa Tribute SG Prototype, given the nickname FZ-Roxy SG on Theguitarvaults entry, is a beautiful thing indeed. In the information supplied by Dweezil, he states,
“It is an exact replica of Frank’s Roxy era guitar which started its life as an SG Special with P90s and no trem. Frank tweaked it a lot in the early 70s and it morphed into this by ’74.
It later ended up with a mirror pick guard over the whole body and some advanced electronics. I decided to have it reproduced to match Roxy/Apostrophe era since this is how the guitar looked and functioned at that time.”
I seem to remember that Frank Zappa once described the SG as the most ‘obscene’ sounding guitar, so this replica of his very own promises to be something very special.
According to Dweezil,
“Hopefully, fans will be able to get to own one of these in the near future.”
It seems fairly likely the Gibson Frank Zappa Tribute SG will appear as a production Gibson model, but when is anyone’s guess. If you can’t wait, there are plenty of others to sate your desire, here. Stay posted here for updates…
