Gretsch G5420 Electromatic Guitar Launched

Gretsch G5420 Aspen Green

The Gretsch G5420 Electromatic Hollow Body is announced, providing another affordable model in the range

The Gretsch G5420 Electromatic Hollow Body guitar has been unveiled, extending the ever-popular Electromatic guitar range. As always, it is every bit a Gretsch, with the kind of hot-rod, rock ‘n’ roll aesthetics for which they are famed. The vintage ethos continues further into the ‘innards’ of the guitar, however, with pickups derived from a Baldwin era set, found by the R & D team to have incredible tone. And all in a package that won’t break the bank.

Vintage Filter’Tron Twang

The pickups equipped to the Gretsch G5420 are a feature of many of the new Gretsch models unveiled at the Summer NAMM show. The Gretsch development team found a set of Baldwin-era Filter’Tron pickups that had incredible, punchy tone. These were reverse-engineered, and the team incorporated what they found into the new Black Top Filter’Tron pickups.

The result? The new guitars have a great new tone that has its roots in vintage Gretsch guitars. These are wired via a three-way switch, with individual pickup volume controls, plus a master volume and tone.

The guitar itself is a familiar hollow-body design, with two F-holes and a single cutaway. Constructed from 5-ply maple, the body should be expected to deliver a lively, bright tone that will complement the new pickups nicely. The neck is a 22-fret maple design, with a rosewood fingerboard and hump-block inlays.

The guitar is bedecked in chrome, in true Gretsch style. A Bigsby licensed tremolo and Adjusto-matic bridge provide a final touch of vintage class.

Gretsch G5420 Orange

The Gretsch G5420 is available in four finishes (Orange, Aspen Green, Black and Sunburst), and also a left-handed version (Orange and Aspen Green only).

The G5420 is due to arrive at Dawsons very soon. To pre-order, call our stores or customer service team (01925 582420), or pre-order online today.
