It's Festival Season!

It's Festival SeasonGlastonbury, V-Festival, The Big Chill, The Isle of White Festival,  Download, Leeds, Reading… When the summer comes there is nothing more amazing than joining thousands of other festival goers for a messy, non-stop, band-filled, mammoth of a party that lasts for days on end!  The ritual begins with the packing of the rucksack: “wellies – check,  tent – check,  should I bring my blue guitar? It won’t fit, what about taking a Kazoo?”

Whether driving, jumping on the train, cycling, walking or using more inventive means (?!)  the journey down is often an adventure, “I got out my ukulele on the train and some guys with bongos and maracas just came and joined in… Soon there was a massive jam going on!”

The Descent is always manic as everyone scrabbles for their camping spot (except the few wealthier goers with their luxury teepees!), meanwhile the traffic is still tailing back and there are miles of people walking from the station. After finding most of the lost tent pegs (where do they go?!) everyone gets their tent up and the party begins, “I was so jealous, last year there was a tent-full of  girls playing tunes on a massive ipod speaker and it worked off batteries!”

Back at the campfire everything keeps going, long after the music stops on the main stage, “I couldn’t believe it, the drinks were flowing, there were people playing red, blue and black guitarsukuleles, egg maracas, harmonicas, bongos and a group of eight Belgians playing kazoos! It was mad and I wish I had brought that guitar, I can’t sing to save my life but it was still the party of a lifetime. I’ll remember that party/not remember that party forever.”
