The Kawai CA95 updates concert artist range, with improved sound, key action, and speaker system
The new Kawai CA95 is the second update to the Concert Artist range. The range of upright digital pianos has been treated to several new upgrades to create an incredibly authentic playing experience in an elegant, upright cabinet. The CA95 features an all all new sound engine, keyboard playing action and an innovative speaker system with real soundboard. Whilst this makes the piano a great instrument for experienced players looking for an authentic digital instrument, it also has a number of great features that make it ideal for beginners and teachers.
Grand feel keyboard with Let Off
The Kawai CA95 features a new ivory feel keyboard, which has a number of great new design touches. Firstly, the wooden keys are covered with Ivory Touch material. This provides authentic weighting, but also absorbs moisture and reduces finger slippage. One of the unique features of the key action is the extended pivot length, which matches that of a Kawai grand. The ‘Let-off’ feature mimics the ‘notch’ effect as a key lands on an acoustic piano (particularly noticeable when playing softly).
So, the CA95, feels very much like a real acoustic piano to play. But, how does it sound? At the heart of the piano is the new Harmonic Imaging XL sound generation technology. The concert grand piano sound is the main focus of this technology. It samples all 88 notes of a premium Kawai grand piano, exploiting the newly expanded sample RAM onboard. The polyphony is now expanded to 256 notes. This works with the new keyboard’s 3-sensor system, which provides an improved repetition control. In total, the CA95 has 80 high quality sounds.
The speaker system built into the Kawai CA95 is another innovation that makes the piano even more authentic to play. The six speaker arrangement is mounted via a soundboard, which resonates to create a huge tone with richer, deeper low frequencies.
Teacher and beginner friendly features
The Kawai CA95 has a number of features that are likely to be popular with beginners and teachers. Four hands mode allows the keyboard to be split into 2 independent keyboards, such that two players (a teacher and student, for example) can play side by side. WAV files can also been recorded and played back, and the piano even has a range of built-in etudes and lessons, created by ‘Alfreds’.

- USB to host and device – connect to a host computer (USB to host) to use as a MIDI controller, and backup data (USB to device) via two separate connections
- Soundboard speaker system – six speakers are mounted to a soundboard for rich, deep tone and response
