Trigger sounds from anything via clip-on sensor clip
The Korg Wavedrum Mini is similar to its bigger brother in that it is an electronic percussion instrument that responds dynamically to how the playing surface is hit, depending on location and force. The immediately transforms the unit from being a simple, ‘sample-trigger’ unit, like many other electronic percussion devices, and creates something far more expressive. One hundred sounds are available to be played by the user, which range from traditional drum sounds, and percussion, to synthesisers and pitched instruments such as strings and tuned percussion.
When the Korg Wavedrum Mini was announced, the aspect that really had people excited was the clip on trigger sensor. This magical device allows the player to transform any surface or object it is clipped onto into a means to trigger sounds from the Wavedrum. This means you can do everything from clipping in onto your shoe to accurately play kick drum patterns, to attaching it to a bottle of water and using it as a shaker. The possibilities are endless, particularly for those who enjoy employing dramatic performance elements into live shows.
On board patterns and looper
The Korg Wavedrum Mini has yet more to offer, however. An extensive range of on-board patterns, in a huge range of styles is available to jam along to. For those who like to take things a little further, a looper with ‘sound on sound’ overdubbing is featured, allowing the user to record one sound over another, with a limitless number of available overdubs. As if this wasn’t enough, the Wavedrum Mini can even be battery powered, making it ideal for the adventurous busker or street performer.
