Liverpool Sound City 2013 – Biggest Event Yet?

Liverpool Sound City 2013

The first details of Liverpool Sound City 2013 are revealed, as the huge Summer event creeps onto the horizon…

Liverpool Sound City 2013 promises to be a very big deal. Much like last year, in fact, but bigger still. If you haven’t heard of the event before, allow me to illuminate…

Back in 2007, a bunch of forward thinking folk from Liverpool put on a showcase event in Austin, for a handpicked selection of the best acts from the UK’s Northwest. It was called Sound City.

In 2008, Liverpool was the UK’s Capital of Culture, so those same people brought Sound City back home. The event has grown somewhat over the years, and now is a full, 3-day festival, focused on music, media, arts and more. Over 360 artists play at 25 venues across the city centre.

Liverpool Sound City 2013 is also very much a music industry event. Aside from the 3000+ industry professionals who will attend the event and watch the huge array of talent on show, there are a series of music business conferences and events, aimed specifically at the attending delegates who work within the industry, making this as much about business as it is about music.

In this part of the event, those with a delegates tickets can attend, amongst other things, Q&A sessions with Tracy Thorn and The Wombats.

First line-up details…

The Sound City 2013 team mailed over a poster with the first details of who will be playing in the summer, and it already looks like an event not to miss.

New York band, The Walkmen, is scheduled to play, performing the acclaimed material that many have declared the best of their career in an incredibly intimate environment.

Alongside these, Reverend and The Makers will also play. The Sheffield based 5-piece’s appearance is perhaps a nod to Sound City’s roots in that original showcase. Fellow Northwest band, Egyptian Hip-Hop is also scheduled to play. The Manchester band has been causing a stir since the release of debut ‘Some Reptiles Grew Wings’ in 2010.

Toy, Murkage, Chapel Club, Fossil Collective, The 1975, Hawk Eyes, Swim Deep, and The Family Rain have all also been confirmed, with many more to be announced shortly.

Sound City 2013 takes place from 2nd-4th May 2013, at venues all across the city. For those wishing to attend, tickets can be obtained from here. *Currently, there’s an ‘Early Bird’ offer, meaning that you can pick up a 3-Day music venues wristband for just £33!

If you snap one of these up, you might just see one of the big acts of 2013 in a small, intimate venue, before they make it ‘big’ (last year, Mercury Prize winners Alt-J played, as did fellow nominees, Django Django, and rising superstar, Jake Bugg).

If all of this hasn’t convinced you, then the whole event is set against the backdrop of one the UK’s (if not Europe’s) most renowned party cities. So, what are you waiting for?
