The Nord Piano 2 is here, offering sounds with even more detail, along with access to an entirely new library
The Nord Piano 2 is another new offering from the Swedish synthesiser obsessive, and, remarkably, it manages to deliver more incredible detail within its onboard sounds, alongside even more versatility. The original Nord Piano was an instant hit, providing piano and electronic piano sounds with a previously unheard level of ‘organic’ sounding realism. Upright pianos had character in spades, and grand pianos maintained the power and subtlety of the instruments on which they were based. Sympathetic resonance, pedal noise and the ability of the pedal to perform ‘release and catch’ and half pedalling techniques added even further authenticity. In a nutshell, the Nord Piano was the most accurate sounding digital piano available. So how does the Nord Piano 2 improve on this?

Nord Sample Library compatibility
At this point, information about the Nord Piano 2 is limited. However, the first major addition that has been revealed may be a feature that makes it the stage piano of choice for many players. Whilst the original was the most realistic source of acoustic and electric piano sounds available, it was unable to provide any other type of sound. The new Nord Piano 2, however, is now compatible with the Nord Sample Library, meaning that the user has access to a huge range of sounds, from acoustic strings, organs, Mellotrons, classic synthesisers and more. This is in addition to the unit’s compatibility with the Nord Piano Library, which provides access to the company’s meticulously sampled piano and electric piano sounds. Unbelievably, Nord provide these additional sounds at no charge. Unlike the previous piano, sounds can now be split and layered.

The Nord Piano 2 tweaks the piano sounds further, by recreating the ‘stomp’ and ‘sizzle’ noises generated by the lifting or releasing of the damper. Adding further sonic options, a delay effect now features in an audio chain including two effects, an EQ, compressor and reverb.
As previously stated, information on the Nord Piano 2 is limited, but from what is known already, it seems to improve on the original in ways likely to massively increase its appeal. The Nord Piano 2 is due to ship at the end of this month (January). Stay posted for more information, or call or stores or customer service team (01925 582420) to pre-order.
