The Novation Ultranova is unboxed and set up in a DAW showing its features and benefits along the way, in a new online video…
The Novation Ultranova is a synthesiser that packs an enormous amount of power into its small but distinctive blue chassis. Based on the virtual-analogue synthesiser engine of the revered Supernova II, the Ultranova adds wavetable synthesis, improved filter options, and features to enable easy integration into a typical computer based DAW set-up.

Supernova II Synth Engine
The Ultranova has, at its heart, a virtual analogue synth engine derived from the legendary Supernova II. This synthesiser was lauded for its incredibly authentic emulation of classic analogue synthesis, along with its versatility, and sheer tonal range, and second hand units rarely appear (often a sign that people really don’t want to part with them…) The Ultranova offers a single-part adaptation of this synth engine, with over 300 onboard patches of exceptional quality. In addition, a 12-band vocoder is equipped, and the synth comes complete with a gooseneck microphone.

Unlike its predecessor, however, the Novation Ultranova can now be edited and controlled via a software editor, for Mac or PC. This means that patches edited in great detail, with all parameters for each of its three oscillators easily and quickly accessible. In addition, sounds can be easily saved, organised and recalled via the unit’s USB connection. The software runs as a plug-in, meaning that patches will be recalled when you reload a project, too. However, editing the sounds via the unit itself is a breeze, thanks a bank of quick access, ‘Synth Edit’ buttons, which allow instant control of synth parameters.

The Ultranova provides further features to enable easy integration into a computer-based studio. A built in USB audio interface makes the unit a complete all-in-one recording solution. This is equipped with two inputs and four outputs, along with a digital SPDIF connection. The keyboard is a fully Automap equipped controller, too, enabling it to deliver easy, hands-on control over software plug-ins, without laborious mapping.
