The PRS SE Custom Semi-hollow with Bigsby is a guitar that fully illustrates how far Paul Reed Smith’s more affordable guitar range has come. This special run guitar takes the acclaimed SE Semi-Hollow model, and gives it a whole heap of vintage charm by adding a Bigsby Tremolo. The Semi-Hollow has already established itself as a favourite, but does this special-run edition tinker too much with the winning formula? The answer it would seem is a resounding ‘no’.

Classic, Mahogany and Maple tonewood combination
The (*deep breath…*) PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow with Bigsby is constructed around a body with a back that is hollowed out on the upper (bass) side, with a top featuring a soundhole that wouldn’t look out of place on a Rickenbacker. The body combines two classic tonewoods, with a mahogany back and a maple top, and has the tasteful curves and double cutaway of the standard Semi-hollow.
The neck is a mahogany, glued in design, with the chunky, PRS wide-fat profile that we know and love. The fingerboard is a luxurious, bound rosewood type, with the iconic bird inlays.
You may have gathered that the main difference between the PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow with Bigsby, and the standard semi-hollow is a Bigsby Tremolo system. A Bigsby always adds a heap of retro-cool to a guitar, and this is no exception. A 3-ply black-white-black scratchplate provides the final touch to the vintage aesthetic.
In terms of electronics, the PRS SE Custom Semi-Hollow with Bigsby is equipped with two PRS designed humbuckers, and as you might expect from a PRS, is sounds great and plays even better. As Guitarist magazine state ‘what more do you want?’ Indeed…
