Roland TD-15 V-Drum Range Revealed

Roland TD-15KV Drum Kit

The Roland TD-15 V-Drum Range is here, with editable SuperNATURAL sounds and wireless technology

The Roland TD-15 V-Drum range is second new range of Roland digital drums to be announced at Musikmesse 2012. The V-Drum range needs no introduction, having become the first choice of digital drum for an army of drummers across the globe. The two new TD-15 kits (the Roland TD-15K and Roland TD-15KV) expand the catalogue with all new editable SuperNATURAL sounds, behaviour modelling and even wireless technology. In addition, the TD-15KV is equipped with the VH-11 floating hi-hat trigger. Roland’s mid priced V-Drum range has never been more appealing…

Roland TD-15K Drum kit

Packed with 500 sounds, and 100 kits, powered by SuperNATURAL technology

The Roland TD-15 range of V-Drum kits has had a major upgrade in terms of the sound technology within. The SuperNATURAL sound engine employed was developed initially for Roland ‘s high-end pianos. It avoids many of the drawbacks associated with typical digital instruments, such as obvious sample switching when dynamics change, providing sounds that smoothly and naturally change through the dynamic range.

The result is a far more natural sounding kit, with no unsettling sonic changes. The newly introduced Behaviour Modelling works along side this, providing more precise and faster response, and replicating how the instrument would respond to the player’s performance. Previously, these features were only available on the TD-30.

The Roland TD-15 module is packed with features. A wide range of backing songs are loaded to the unit, with the ability to stream audio tracks from an external USB flash drive. Now, however, the tempo of these audio files can be adjusted for easy practice with a speed control, along with volume. Additionally, sections can be looped and repeated, adding further to the TD-15 ‘s strengths as a practice tool. It doesn’t end there, however. The module is complete with the acclaimed coaching features seen in the TD-4. These offer excellent warm up and practice exercises, to improve technique and performance.

One of the new additions to the Roland TD-15 range is compatibility with Air recorder and V-Drums Friend Jam apps for iPhone. The kits connect wirelessly to these apps via an optional USB wireless adaptor.

Roland TD-15KV Drum Kit

The two versions of the TD-15 V-Drums kit offer differing trigger pad configurations. The Roland TD-15K features the PDX-8 and PDX-6, 8” and 6” mesh head trigger pads, with CY-12C crash, CY-13R ride and CY-5 hi-hat triggers. The Roland TD-15KV upgrades the pads, however. The snare and floor tom are PDX-100, 10” triggers, with PD-85BK 8” triggers for the remaining toms (all with mesh heads). The cymbals remain the same, but the hi-hat is upgraded to Roland’s VH-11 floating hi-hat trigger. This attaches to a standard hi-hat stand, and provides natural feel and movement.

Here are the TD-15 V-Drum range’s key features:

  • SuperNATURAL Sound Technology – natural drum sounds, with authentic response
  • Behaviour Modelling – improved sensing and more precise response, with organic dynamic replication of performances
  • 500 sounds and 100 kits – 50 user kits and 50 preset kits. Sound parameters can be edited
  • Backing tracks and audio player- high quality on board songs, and audio player with speed control and loop function to aid practice
  • Coach feature – practice and warm-up exercises built-in
  • Floating hi-hat – TD-15KV includes VH-11 hi-hat trigger
  • Two versions available – TD-15K and TD-15KV
  • Module also available separately

The Roland TD-15K and TD-15KV build on the already comprehensive V-Drum range.
