Roland V-Piano Grand

Roland’s Flagship, the V-Piano Grand, in now in-store and available to try at our Reading Store!

The Roland V-Piano Grand, one of the most technologically advanced digital pianos ever conceived, is now available to try at our Reading store. This makes Dawsons Reading one of the very few places in the UK that this incredible Piano is available to try. Announced at the winter NAMM show, the Roland V-Piano Grand takes the awe-inspiring technology developed for the original V-Piano, and expands it.

Cutting Edge Technology

The Roland V-Piano Grand may categorised as a digital piano, just like its contemporaries, but the manner in which it generates its piano tone is far more advanced. Typical digital pianos use samples (in essence, digital recordings) of each piano note, which can then be replayed when keys are pressed. Whilst very good results can be achieved using this method, there are some fundamental shortcomings.

It is, on occasion, noticeable when a sample switches from one to another, particularly when going from playing softly to playing slightly harder. Also, to keep samples at a minimum size, they are often ‘looped’, making the decay of a note sound unnatural. And, a major disadvantage is that the samples are recordings, and cannot be edited to change the overall sound very much at all.

Roland V-Piano GrandThe Roland V-Piano Grand, by contrast, works by creating mathematical ‘models’ of every single component of an acoustic piano, and recreating their effects on the resulting tone. Without getting too drawn into the technicalities, this means that there are no jarring sample switches, there is no looping, and every single aspect contributing to the piano’s tone can be altered at will. This means, for instance, that you can change the hardness of the hammer felts, to create a brighter or softer attack. Or, you can change the piano strings, soundboard or just about anything else.
Obviously, you can just select from the array of astonishing presets, and play some of most dynamic, rewarding and realistic piano sounds available anywhere.
Roland V-Piano Grand

There is far too much to say about the Roland V-Piano Grand than can be discussed at any length here. However, the instrument now on display in our Reading store presents an opportunity to try it, and be given a tour of its incredible capabilities by resident Roland expert, Garry Whitehead. To arrange a one-to-one session, or to find out more, call 0118 9581320. Details of our Reading store location, and contact email can be found here.
