Cakewalk Sonar X2 is scheduled to land in Autumn, with a host of new audio toys
Sonar X2 has been announced, bringing with it even more features, plug-ins, improvements and power. X1 was already stuffed with high quality effects, instruments and more. Sonar X2 adds even more to the feature list, and from the small amount of info we’ve received, we’re in for a real treat.
Here are some of the new features that we can glean…

R-Mix Sonar
Roland’s R-Mix audio processing and manipulation software was a very welcome surprise when it appeared last year. Providing an intuitive visual interface for complex audio process, it can be used for everything from simple fixes, to removing musical elements from a mixed piece of audio. And now, Sonar X2 has its very own version.
Console Emulation
There’s not a lot of info about this, but it seems fairly self-explanatory. It seems that this aims to add emulation of classic mixing consoles to Sonar X2 ‘s arsenal.
Breverb
Overloud’s Breverb has always been a favourite among producers, for its emulations of classic algorithm-based reverb units. Sonar X2 users can now enjoy an integrated version.
Modular Pro-Channel
The ever-popular ProChannel from X1 returns to Sonar X2. Now, however, it’s modular, adding even more flexibility to the superb mixing console.
Further enhancements include new automation lanes, clip designer (allowing users to design exactly how clips look in their arrangement), an enhanced arpeggiator and hundreds more new functional changes. Ina addition, it’s now Windows 8 compatible, and features 64-bit rewire. Phew…
If you’re chomping at the bit to get your hands on Sonar X2, purchasing Sonar X1 will entitle owners to a free downloadable upgrade of the equivalent Sonar X2 version (i.e. X1 Producer will be upgraded to X2 Producer, X1 Studio to X2 Studio etc). full details can be found here.
