The Squier Mikey Way Mustang Bass is launched
The Squier Mikey Way Mustang Bass has just been announced at the NAMM trade show, adding to the Fender subsidiary’s rapidly expanding signature range. Mikey Way, the bassist for US alternative rock band, My Chemical Romance, and brother to lead singer Gerard Way, has something of a hardcore following, and this bass is likely to be incredibly popular as a result. Designed with Way’s input, it is distinctive, to say the least…

Short scale design
The Squier Mikey Way Mustang Bass is based on (you guessed it) a Fender Mustang Bass. Fender first introduced the Mustang in 1966, as part of a range of shorter scale, student instruments. Featuring the asymmetric waist of the Jazzmaster and Jaguar, the Mustang body was smaller and slimmer. The Mikey Way Mustang Bass shares the short scale of the Fender equivalent, with a scale length of just 30”. A basswood body is paired with a maple neck with a 9.5” radius rosewood fingerboard. Rather than being equipped with a split coil pickup like its Fender ancestor, the Squier Mikey Way Mustang Bass is loaded with a single, high output humbucker, capable of thunderous tone. Single tone and volume controls complete the on-board electronics. The bridge is a string-through-body design, with saddles that are adjustable individually, and vintage style tuners at the other end of the neck.

Visually, the Mikey Way Mustang Bass is based on his own Fender Custom Shop instrument. Finished in Large Flake Silver Sparkle, the bass has black racing stripes, with matching 3-ply black-white-black scratchplate and black finished headstock, with Way’s signature on the reverse.
The Squier Mikey Way Mustang Bass looks likely to be a huge hit, and will be in stock very soon. Call our stores or customer service team (01925 582420).
