Our Stockport Guitar Lessons are based around the Rockschool series of exams and syllabus. These guitar lessons also allow the guitar teacher to add their own experience and teaching methods while still keeping a disciplined framework and teaching process.
The teachers will use modern songs as a basis for their music lessons which encourages learning. There’s nothing better than learning to play the music you hear on the radio! They’ll also cover some of the classic songs and learn the techniques used by those original guitarists to play them. Also as part of the guitar lessons they will learn different skills on the guitar including pinched harmonics, strumming techniques and guitar solos. Students will also learn guitar scales and different guitar tunings.
Since the courses are based around the Rockschool syllabus each guitar class works towards the Rockschool exams which are held approximately once a year. This gives the guitar class something to work towards and provides real exam results that are recognised by music departments in schools all across the UK.

Guitar lessons in Stockport are £10.00 for a 1 hour lesson and this is payable in monthly blocks on the first lesson of each block. The Rockschool examination books can be purchased from us or the teacher ranging from £13.99 to £15.99

Tom Favell
Tom started playing guitar at the age of eleven back in 1998, also starting drums a few years before in 1996. He persued his musical interests through school and onto college, studying at Access to Music at Leicester college. Whilst here, he started to teach guitar and vocals for a company in Leicester and privately. He furthered his passion for music by moving to Manchester and studying music at Salford university, where he studied performance and musical directing as his main electives. He left Salford with an upper first class degree in 2010 and decided to study teacher training, in order to further his pedagogical expertise. Tom started performing regularly from the age of sixteen, first in Leicester and then in the North West, both solo and with original and function bands. He still performs now whilst teaching at Dawsons, with a jazz quartet, a rock/pop function band, an originals band, and solo spots.
Tom provides lessons in guitar and theory at Dawsons, combining the ensemble skills he aquired whilst at university and whilst studying teacher training. He likes to personalise his lessons as much as possible with his students, altering the content wherever possible to meet the needs of his students and their musical aspirations. The lessons are currently £10 an hour and are taught in groups of no more than four, to guarantee quality teaching over standardised content that would prehaps occur within other larger group lessons.

Your free trial guitar lesson at our Stockport store will last approximately 30-45 minutes and gives a taster of the course. We will also explain the cost of the lessons and advise of available lesson times.
Free Trial Lessons (FTL) are open to anyone (providing they are above the minimum age) so it really is NEVER too late to learn. All of our Stockport guitar teachers have adult classes and in some cases operate mixed age classes so we really do have something for everyone.
Where a prospective student has previous experience the guitar teacher may offer a free one-to-one consultation instead of a FTL, with a view to putting the student into an already existing guitar class.
Please note that free trial guitar lessons at Stockport take place when there are enough students to fill a group, this may mean your details being kept on a waiting list until the next available FTL. Some of our music schools only offer lessons during term-time, where this is the case FTLs are held in term-time.
Free taster guitar lessons are available to those who are not already existing students of Dawsons Music School at Stockport. A taster guitar lesson will be held by arrangement with the teacher providing the student is above the minimum age for the relevant course.
