The Native Instruments Traktor S4 is more affordable than ever…
The Traktor S4 was one of the most eagerly awaited DJ technology products ever, following its announcement a few years ago. Traktor Pro was already one of the ‘industry standard’ tools for laptop DJs, and Native had won over many with it’s compact X1 controller, whilst keeping the old-school happy with Traktor Scratch. The idea that it was releasing a controller designed specifically for the purpose of providing 4-deck control over its own software package was mouth-watering.
The S4 delivered on its promise admirably, and has become the tool of choice for many DJs ever since. And now, until August 31st (2012), the Traktor S4 is more affordable than ever, with an extra £50 slashed off the price.
Full four deck control
The Traktor S4 may look familiar to anyone who has used a modern DJ controller. However, as you might expect from the folks that brought Traktor to the world, the S4 offers tight, ‘hand-in-glove’ integration. Whilst there are only two platters/ jog wheels, the controller provides full control over Traktor 2.5 ‘s four decks. Each deck has its own channel controls, whilst the platters can be easily switched to control deck C and D via buttons located just above each wheel.
The jog-wheels featured on the Traktor S4 are multi-functional. Like many digital decks, the outer provides pitch control, whilst the top enables scratch control. In browse mode, they can be used to cycle through song libraries, and cue tracks. By re-mapping, the jog-wheels can be made to control pretty much anything you may desire (controllerists may want to check out DJ Tech-tools’ Ean Golden’s set-up, whereby the platters control effects)
Aside from being a very well equipped controller, the Traktor S4 is also a very high quality audio interface, with the same Cirrus Logic converters seen in Native’s highly acclaimed range of interfaces, ensuring your set is delivered in premium quality to your appreciative audience.
