Get the low-down on the new Roland V-Drum range with Craig Blundell
The new Roland V-Drum line-up is possibly the most significant upgrade the range has ever received. With every model from the TD-11 upwards now featuring cutting edge, SuperNATURAL technology, V-Drums perform more dynamically, and more authentically then ever before. The new models comprises the TD-11, TD-15, and the almighty TD-30, each with two different pad configurations.
We’re lucky enough to have Craig Blundell in-store at Manchester on the 14th June to show off these superb new digital drums in the evening, and also hosting a drum ‘battle’ via Roland’s excellent free software, Friend Jam, during the day.

V-Drums go Supernatural
If you’ve seen any of Roland’s recent pianos, or synthesizers, the chances are you’ve seen the words ‘SuperNATURAL Technology’ emblazoned upon them. This technology manages to avoid many of the draw backs of the more traditional sample-based pianos/ synthesisers, by making transitions between different dynamics/ velocities, and different notes smooth, with no jarring switching of samples.
V-Drums are the latest range to benefit from this technology. Acoustic drums are very complex harmonically (i.e. the range of frequencies of sound that make up each drum sound is very broad, and changes drastically depending how hard, fast the drum is played). By using SuperNATURAL technology, and employing some very clever behaviour modelling technology, the new V-Drum range replicates the subtle changes in sound according to how the kit is played.

So, cymbal rolls/ swells are now smooth and natural, ‘opening up’ as they are played louder. Drum rolls are equally authentic. And this technology is on all of the new models, from the TD-11 upwards!
Friend Jam – Jam, with friends…
The Roland Friend Jam software package is something that adds tremendous value to any V-Drum kit. This free piece of software allows V-Drummers to practice via fun, but worthwhile exercises, improve technique, and keep a record of progress. Crucially, however, it allows players from around the World to compete, with exercises awarded points and entered into World Ranking league tables.
This element of gamesmanship is a great motivator, and adds an extra element of fun to the discipline of practice. And, if you visit the Manchester store on the 14th of June, you can have a go, and compete for yourself in the Friend Jam Battle…

Craig Blundell, who will be hosting the day’s events, and presenting the clinic, is a man who is incredibly generous with his time and copious talents. A seasoned session player and clinician, Craig was also heavily involved in the development of several V-Drum models, the new TD-11, TD-15 and TD-30 included. As anyone who has attended his previous clinics will testify, these event are always great fun and informative.
To book a place at the clinic, call the Manchester store (0162 2371770). To try your hand in the V-Drum battle, pop into the store on the 14th June.
