Yamaha musical instruments have a reputation for outstanding quality, from the cheapest beginner instrument, to their high-end pro-instruments. And one of the most fitting illustrations of this is the f310 acoustic guitar. An excellent value, hugely playable instrument, it is one of the most popular beginner guitars ever made. And, this is one of Yamaha’s entry-level guitars, the upper echelons of their range a home to some incredible acoustic guitars. Never a company to ‘dine out’ on past glories, a new range of acoustic guitars was announced earlier this year, and is due to arrive in Dawsons stores very soon. The Yamaha A-Series is a mid priced range of electro-acoustic guitars, available in dreadnought and concert body sizes, with choices of preamp and either mahogany or rosewood back and sides. Taking design cues from player feedback, the guitars of this range feature slim necks and low action, for an easier playing experience.
Focusing on the guitars in more detail, the Yamaha A1R is a cutaway dreadnought sized acoustic, with a solid sitka spruce top, and rosewood back and sides and a mahogany neck. An ebony bridge and rosewood fingerboard finishes the picture, with a System 66 analogue preamp taking care of duties when the A1R is plugged into an amp. The Yamaha A1M is the same guitar as the A1R, but featuring a mahogany back and sides. So, if you find rosewood too dark tonally, the Mahogany backed A1M may well be the guitar for you. And if Dreadnoughts are little too big for your taste, the A-Series’ concert-body guitars should be more appealing. The Yamaha AC1M features, the same sitka spruce top, mahogany back and sides and System 66 preamp of the A1M, but in, you guessed, a cutaway concert body. Its sibling the Yamaha AC1R features the same spruce top but with warmer, rosewood back and sides.
The A3 series of guitars feature the System 63-SRT preamp system. The Yamaha A3R is a dreadnought in same mould as the A1R, featuring rosewood back and sides but with the same, upgraded System 63-SRT Preamp, with the Yamaha A3M, AC3R and AC3M bearing a similar relationship to their siblings in the A1 series.
