The Zoom Q2HD adds even more functionality to the Handy Video Recorder range
The Zoom Q2HD provides a great demonstration of just how accessible high quality digital video technology has become. Building on the previous successes of the Q3 and Q3HD, the Q2HD offers even more for your hard-earned cash. The new model is the only HD handheld camcorder to offer live streaming and mid-side (M-S) audio recording. In addition, it has an improved cameras sensor, and is the first M-S USB mic, capable of being used with iPads as well as Macs and PCs. And all, in a pocket sized device.
The middleman…
Without getting into technicalities too much, M-S recording usually involves using a standard cardioid mic facing forwards (mid), with a figure of eight (bi-directional) mic set up at right angles to it (side). These are routed through a decoder, which results in a recording with a wide stereo field with natural ambience.
Plus, the perceived width of the recording can be adjusted by adjusting the level of the side mic. On the Zoom Q2HD, this means that the angle of the recording mics can be adjusted between 30 degrees and 150 degrees, making it suitable for a huge variety of situations.
Live streaming of video and audio has become far more commonplace. The Q2HD provides a simple means of streaming high quality audio and video data to a host computer. So, your gigs, interviews or event footage, now has the potential to reach an even bigger audience on the Internet, and in real time.
Like previous audio Handy Recorder models, the Zoom Q2HD is capable of being used as a USB microphone. Unlike all previous USB microphones, however, this is capable of operating via USB in M-S mode.
Lights, Camera…
One of the areas, which most regularly shows up a cheap video cameras’ shortcomings is its ability to operate in low light conditions. Blurred, dark results, with the occasional glimpse of light are commonplace in these situations, The Q2HD now offers a variety of new settings to improve the results; auto, concert (for rapidly changing conditions) and night (for low light.
The Zoom Q2HD is an incredible little box. In addition to the key features outlined here, it provides a mini HDMI connection, landscape or portrait operation, and even comes with easy video editing software. Maintaining the high standards of audio of previous models, the Q2HD builds on it with more features, and even better quality audio and video. Plus, it can even be used with an iPad.
