The uses of MIDI are numerous, with benefits both in the studio and live. Well used for decades, MIDI has been adapted alongside other technological developments making it constantly relevant and providing reliable performance. Although some newer products are capable of directly sending MIDI information over USB, some equipment uses a 5 pin DIN cable for sending the data. The MIDI interface provides a means of connecting external MIDI equipment with these connectors to a computer, such as controller keyboards, sound modules or synthesisers, to control, or be controlled by software.
