The Alesis DM Dock converts your iPad or iPad 2 into a powerful 'brain' for electronic drum kits. The ever-expanding range of fantastic drum apps means you are always able to get hold of new sounds, different software, new effects (so long as the app accepts external MIDI, it will work). One of the greatest features is the wide compatibility, the DM Dock is not limited to Alesis hardware, you can use it with virtually any drum pads and triggers, and to top it all off there are 12 dual zone 1/4" trigger inputs, and one hi-hat control input for large kit/percussion setups. The support extends to multiple choke-able cymbals including triple-zone ride and dual-zone continuous hi-hats. The DM Dock can handle professional level drum triggers from all the major manufacturers.
Rather than buy an entire new electronic drum set when your current sounds are 'dated', or get a new 'brain', the Alesis DM Dock makes your digital drum setup easy to upgrade, extend and adapt - you can literally use the iPad data connection to download new sounds and effects during the soundcheck at a gig, and should you have issues with the particular room sound of the venue you can get new reverbs or perhaps a less cutting snare. There are just so many options for changing your setup in the future, that many other devices seriously lack.
The Alesis DM Dock has a varitey of other connections. There is an 1/8" Mix In for playing with additional audio sources, MIDI in/out for external devices, a headphone output, 1/4" master outputs and a USB computer connection. This flexability provides the scope needed for demanding stage and studio use.
Your iPad is protected within the DM Dock so it it safe for stage use, and it also gets charged up at the same time so you don't need to worry about running out of juice when you are on a gig. Additionally you can purchase a stand mount seperately that lets you attach the Alesis DM Dock to any stand or rack, for easy reach. If you are a drummer with an iPad, or thinking about getting one - this device is seriously worth considering.
