Epiphone know a thing or two about making superb guitars, but the Emperor Swingster is just flaunting their talents. Composed of a fine selection of tonewoods, impressive hardware and drop-dead gorgeous looks, the Swingster is definitely one to be paraded around town.
It's all about the sparkle with the Emperor Swingster and this starts with the tonewood combination: a bright maple back and sides matched up with a bright spruce top. Both of these tonewoods have excellent resonance, which gives them a greater depth of flavour and a definite snappiness. This makes the Emperor Swingster an absolute must for players of country or jazz as the sound produced by this body is made for them.
Giving you access to the tonal delights within the body is the divine hard maple neck, married to a luxurious rosewood fingerboard. Pearloid blocks guide your way along in fine style, whilst the 20 medium jumbo frets unlock the potential within this gorgeous guitar. The beauty is in the detail and can be spotted even where the neck meets the body, with the very delicate curves that seem to gently brush the neck pickup.
At the neck and bridge position a Swingbucker and Swingbucker Plus with Alnico V magnets are fitted. Both pickups are overwound to bring tonnes of tonal flavour with the perfect combo of warmth and bite. The neck pickup fizzes with the sweetest, crystal clear tones you could hope for that are simply perfect for "tight" jazz tones. The combination of both neck and bridge pickups generates a rich and "full" tone that Chet Atkins himself would be proud of. Finally, the bridge pickup alone gives a fat, soulfully deep tone that would soften the heart of any blues' players.
But we're not finished there!
The pickups are each fitted with push/pull tone controls that allow you to change each pickup's output individually from parallel to series wiring. The gives you an unbelievable amount of tonal options by exploiting the coil tap capabilities and getting the 3-way pickup toggle selector switch involved. You can have both pickups as single coils; both as humbuckers; one single-coil with one humbucker then vice-versa; access each pickup individually in either a single-coil or humbucker state; create blends using the individual tone and volume pots - the possibilities are literally endless. What it boils down to is, what your creativity and imagination can pull from this absolute marvel of a guitar.
On top of the tonal possibilities, Epiphone have gone even further and put a Bigsby B30 on this baby, with original style "wire" handle that Chet Atkins and Merle Travis would be proud of. The Bigsby gives you unparalleled control over your vibrato and allows you to put your own signature style into each and every note. To ensure that the strings return to pitch accurately and quickly, a pinned tune-o-matic bridge has been employed to expertly carry out this task.
So as we know, the strings are anchored to the body in the best way possible thanks to the B30 tailpiece, and thanks to the Grover tuners up top, tuning integrity is guaranteed throughout each and every performance.
This Emperor Swingster comes in a devilishly cool Wine Red finish, with binding to the fingerboard and body. The headstock also features multi-binding, as well as being decorated with the classic pearloid "vine" inlay.
The Epiphone Emperor Swingster is a work of art, crafted by experts and delivered to you. Not only does it play so gracefully that you'll never want to leave it alone, but it sings like no other, and breathes life into each and every note you play with it.
