The Epiphone Inspired by 1964 Texan Electro Acoustic Guitar in Vintage Cherry is a marvelous instrument that has won over many a respected artist, thanks to its lushly textured tones and impressive timbre. Amongst those who have sought out its magic are Paul McCartney, Peter Frampton and Noel Gallagher. If that wasn't enough to convince you, its legendary status is firmly rooted forever in musical history for being the model of choice that McCartney wrote and performed one of the most recorded and popular songs ever, "Yesterday". Thanks to Epiphone's tireless dedication to their craft, you can play with the outstanding features of the original 1964 Texan, whilst benefitting from some modern appointments to guarantee its longevity and peerless performance. Both vintage purists and modern day enthusiasts will fall in love with this beauty.
Classic body shape
Taking on the form of the original Texan, Epiphone have employed a more rounded upper bout than those seen on a standard dreadnought, which is paired with a slender waist. The body then opens up more towards the lower bout to reveal a bell-like shape, that combines a rumbling mid to low-end energy alongside a confident and crisp upper frequency articulation.
Matching the tonewood complement of the original model, the Epiphone 164 Texan's body is built using a heady combination of premium solid spruce for the top, and a solid mahogany back with matching rims. The mahogany works beautifully with the body shape to generate a rich foundation for the guitar's smooth and sophisticated timbre, whilst the spruce adds a lightness to its energy, and resonates beautifully to project tones with a graceful elegance. The use of solid woods guarantees that this model is only going to age well, developing greater depth of character during its lifetime.
Solid neck construction
Fitted to the body is a solid mahogany neck, which provides a smooth playing feel alongside reassuring stability. The hand-fitted, glued-in neck construction guarantees that no matter how enthusiastically you perform, you will always feel confident in this neck's ability to keep up with you, whilst the slimtaper profile is about a comfortable and easy to perform with as it gets. The neck is topped with a sumptuous rosewood fingerboard, which is home to 20-frets that are adorned with original parallelogram inlays.
The headstock is home to original-style - but updated - 14:1 gear ratio vintage tuners that come complete with classic small oval buttons. The body is home to a compensated saddle, which provides improved tuning accuracy, and greater string vibration transfer. Not only does optimise intonation and sustain, but it allows the rich timbre of the tonewoods to truly sing. Epiphone has even reproduced the original blue rectangular sound hole label from the 1960's for yet another touch of authenticity.
Teaming up with the electronics' wizards at Shadow, Epiphone adds the state-of-the-art Sonic preamp system with its revolutionary under-saddle NanoFlex low-impedance pickup, allowing you to take your performance to a larger stage whilst capturing the rich acoustic tone of the Texan effortlessly.
Discretely mounted inside the sound hole, the Sonic preamp features an easy-access volume control with high and low EQ controls, enabling you to easily shape your tonal output. The "phase" switch instantly cuts feedback without affecting tone, preserving the audiences hearing as well as your own. The Nanoflex pickup senses both the vibrations of the strings, and the movements of the soundboard simultaneously, giving it the uncanny ability to translate the "acoustic" sounds created by this heavenly model - combining accurate body and string tone with a percussive attack. In order to ensure that you're stage ready, a battery indicator LED turns on when the battery is low and should be replaced within 30 minutes. A premium Shadow output jack is incorporated into the endpin jack, so all you need to do is plug in, and play.
