Construction

The Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus Top utilises the classic LP pairing of a solid mahogany body with a maple top, which in this instance is a beautiful AAA flame maple veneer, offset by a single-ply cream binding. Along with looking good this classic combination ensures you get the heralded Les Paul tone and sustain.

The quality woods don’t end there as the neck of the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plus-Top has also been constructed from mahogany, which has been carved to the fast and comfortable ‘60s SlimTaper D profile, and features a scale of 24.75” and a 12” radius. This is topped by a rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets, a nut width of 1.68”, single-ply cream binding and is adorned with pearloid trapezoid inlays. This leads to the headstock, which has been angled at 14 degrees to give the best possible sustain and tuning stability.

Pro-Bucker Humbuckers with Coil-Tapping

Giving versatility unheard of in previous Plustops the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop Electric Guitar features a pair of coil-tapped Pro-Buckers; a Pro-Bucker-2 in the neck position and a Pro-Bucker-3 in the bridge position.

Coil tapping aside the humbuckers equipped on the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop are pretty special as they feature the same Alnico II magnets used in vintage PAF humbuckers. From these you can expect a fantastic emulation of the much sought after PAF sound with everything from sparkling highs to solid lows, all with that trademark richness and warmth. While the Pro-Bucker-3 is overwound to bring a bit more edginess to your lead sound both pickups have been wound using Epiphone’s double vacuum waxing process to ensure hum-free operation.

Factor in the coil-tapping of both pickups (activated via push/pull controls on the volume knobs) and you’re seriously spoilt for choice, as the Epiphone Les Paul Standard Plustop will give you single-coil bark to full humbucker bite and everything in between.
