Fitted with innovative electronics and drawing from the vast history Epiphone have, the MM-50E Mandolin is a professional instrument which is great for live performance. An ornate body with dual F-holes is reminiscent of the Lloyd Loar era at the legendary Kalamazoo factory, with ideas for the electronics also taken from this era.
Versatile Electronic System
The Epiphone MM-50E has a great electronic system featuring a Shadow NanoMag pickup that has individual volume controls for each pair of strings. This solves the problem many players have when performing live with balance between the strings and allows for a much more controllable sound. Even more control is given with the movable pickup design. As the Shadow Nanomag is mounted to the pickguard, you can slide it from neck to bridge and anywhere in between. This lets you change the tone precisely to suit your playing style and the type of music you are playing. Want a brighter tone? Move the pickup towards the bridge. If you're after more warmth in your tone move it towards the neck.
Apart from the unique pickup design, this is very much a traditional mandolin. The solid spruce top is carved and looks extremely suitable for the instrument. The subtle nuances of the tonewood really come through in the sound of the Epiphone MM-50E, while the flame maple back and sides add a further classic touch. The neck is also maple, carved to a SlimTaper "C" shape and then set by hand to ensure quality. The rosewood fingerboard is a great choice for playability, adorned with dot inlays, while the headstock features a traditional "Flower Pot" design, again in tribute to Lloyd Loar and the Kalamazoo factory.
