Description

Details

The Epiphone Thunderbird PRO IV Bass Guitar in Vintage Sunburst is as visually striking as it is tonally powerful. Since its initial release back in the early '60s, the Thunderbird has been coveted by many and been the working axe of many rock stars. The Thunderbird PRO combines traditional elements with modern appointments to create a marvellous model that is sure to become a classic in its own right. Boasting exceptional tonewoods, powerful electronics, and that unique zig-zag offset body, the Epiphone Thunderbird PRO IV is a mighty bass that commands respect.

Classic Thunderbird design

The heart of the Thunderbird’s robust tonal energy comes from its through-neck construction. The 7-piece (walnut/maple) neck runs along the entire length of the bass, which gives the model amazing sustain and tone. The walnut and maple partnership guarantees strength and rigidity, inspiring a confident playing experience so that you can rock out as hard as you please. The neck is set to the SlimTaper profile along a 34-inch scale length, which makes it very easy to navigate.

Fitted to each side of the neck are mahogany body wings, which reinforces the impressive sustain of the Thunderbird but injecting warmth and low-end depth to the timbre of the bass. The wings are added using adhesive in order to maximise strength, whilst maintaining the guitar's lightweight feel.

Married to the neck is a 20 medium-jumbo fret rosewood fingerboard, which is adorned with dot position inlays to guide you as you navigate along the neck. Set to a 12-inch radius, the fingerboard is designed to accommodate smooth string bends, as well as lightning fast scale runs.

Epiphone’s T-Pro Bass Humbucker

The Thunderbird PRO IV is equipped with a pair of Epiphone’s T-Pro bass humbuckers, which include custom active electronics and EQ control, which a powered by a 9-volt battery that has an easily accessible compartment in the back of the body. The unique power of these pickups gives this model a roaring arsenal of tones to call forth, giving this model a seriously versatile character. Control over the pickups is easy, with a Master Volume pot, a Blend pot to control how output comes through from each pickups, as well as a High EQ, and a Low EQ. Between these four controls, you have everything needed to sculpt your tone.

Gig-ready hardware

The headstock is fitted with premium die-cast tuning machines with an impressive 17:1 gear ratio, which dutifully maintain tuning integrity no matter how hard you rock. The body is home to a flush-mount fully adjustable bridge, which creates a seamless connection between strings and body, which upholds intonation and sustain perfectly.

The vintage sunburst finish and black hardware complement each other beautifully, whilst the white Thunderbird logo pickguard is a classic feature and adds a touch of elegance to the already stunning design.

Customer Reviews
Nicest bass I've ever played. I picked it up and I knew even without playing it that this was the bass for this band.
Posted on 13/12/2015 by Pecos Red After playing this beast in the store I had no option but to by it right then. One thing, I was partial to the sunburst colored one but the one that I bought was the translucent black model. The neck on the black one felt slimmer and nicer than the other (Both Pro IV with active pups) so it may may be worth checking out a couple of different guitars to see which one has the best feel for you. My band fell in love with the Thunderbird too.....Amazing bass. Everything about this bass is amazing (Especially the price! It's better than my Fender Blacktop Jazz in all areas and the Blacktop is one great bass.
