The Fender American Special Jazz Bass guitar delivers a US-made, high-quality model at a price that makes the exceptional Jazz Bass attainable for even more players.
Since its introduction over 50 years ago, the original Jazz Bass has been tweaked very little, which is testament to the near-perfect original design. Subtle improvements have been made to make the model more suitable for player's needs with each rendition that is built, but you can rest assured that it remains true to the original body profile.
The body has been crafted from alder, a tonewood that has been favoured for decades due to its well-balanced tonal output, handling lows/mids/highs with deft precision. The result is a vast dynamic range with an incredibly complex level of tonal articulation. As you'd expect, the body has the smooth and slender contours that have made the Jazz Bass the coveted bass that it is, offering an incredibly comfortable playing feel. The weight is distributed fairly across the body and neck, ensuring an easy to wield and easy to control feel during live performances. The offset waist makes it very comfortable to play the bass in a seated position too.
Fitted to the body is a slim "C" profile maple neck, with a satin urethane finish on the back to prevent tackiness or stickiness from affecting playability. Married to the neck is a sumptuous rosewood fingerboard, which is home to 20 medium-jumbo frets that are adorned with white dot position inlays to aid in your navigation. The combination of the maple and rosewood enables for to create a snappy attack for fast and punchy playing styles, whilst yielding soft, lush notes when required.
The American Special Jazz Bass comes equipped with standard vintage Alnico magnet single-coil Jazz Bass pickups in the middle and bridge positions. The pickup pairing translates the timbre of the tonewoods with the utmost transparency, and control comes in the form of individual volume pots for each pickup, and a master tone pot that is backed up with Greasebucket circuitry - which enables you to roll off highs without adding extra bass to the signal. Rather than having a pickup selector switch, the Jazz Bass setup allows you to carefully attenuate the output for each pickup to sculpt your ideal tonal output.
Graphite neck support rods, give the slim neck profile incredible strength, so that you can play with the utmost confidence. The headstock is fitted with standard open-gear tuning machines that are easily adjusted, but remain firm and true during performances to maintain tuning integrity. The body is equipped with a standard vintage-style bridge with single-groove saddles, which works tirelessly to keep each string fixed to ensure optimum intonation, no matter how enthusiastically you play.
The Fender American Special Jazz Bass is a very special model. Not only does it play and sound like a dream, but thanks to the cool three-colour sunburst finish, it looks awesome too. The gloss urethane finish to the body ensures the finish looks that way for as long as possible, whilst the 3-ply parchment pickguard prevents unwanted nicks and scrapes from upsetting the stunning finish.
