The instantly-recognisable Stratocaster sums up rock and roll in its very shape, one that is known by guitarists and non-guitarists worldwide. Protecting the legacy of the model, today’s Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar model may seem unchanged since its inception but small changes have occurred over the years to ensure that the model remains as cutting edge today as it always has been.
Since the last version of the model, Fender have changed the plastic parts for vintage-looking aged plastic parts, and the pickups have been replaced by a trio of Fender Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups, which provide the same core sound, just fuller than before.
Light Body, Thin Coat
Alder is the tonewood used in many Strats through the years due to the booming lows and sparkling highs it produces, whilst remaining low in weight and therefore being more comfortable to play. The body of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster has been crafted to the legendary shape and then coated with a thin undercoat, to let the wood breathe easily and resonate freely. This has then been covered with a 3-Colour Sunburst urethane finish to protect the wood and give it that beautiful colour.
The body colour is matched nicely with a 3-ply parchment pickguard, along with aged white plastic controls and an aged white switch tip.
Play in Style and Comfort
Joined to the body via a four-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt adjustment is a maple neck that has been finished in satin urethane, for an exceptionally comfortable feel, and carved to the Modern C shape profile, which is known for its incredible playability.
A 9.5” radius rosewood fingerboard with 22 medium-jumbo frets provides a pleasing playing surface, while pearloid dot position inlays mark your way. This fingerboard also has rolled edges, which gives the smoother feeling of a guitar that is already broken in.
Steadfast Intonation, Exceptional Sustain
Make your way to the top of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster’s neck and you will find a synthetic bone nut measuring in at 1.685” (42.8 mm) wide. At the other end of the guitar’s 25.5" (648 mm) scale length is a 2-point synchronized tremolo bridge with bent steel saddles and a copper-infused block. Working together seamlessly this set up brings steadfast intonation, exceptional sustain, and is easy to adjust, while tremolo action is more fluid than ever.
Same Classic Tone, Only Fatter
A notable update of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster, is the replacement of the pickups to three Custom Shop Fat '50s single-coil Strat pickups. This is not to say that classic tone of the Strat has gone with the previous pickups, the tone is still there but now with an enhanced bass response, without any harsh mid-range, and a warmer, fuller sound.
