A classic through-and-through, the Strat is the epitome of rock and roll; one of those products that everyone instantly recognises as a class-leader. The 2012 Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar is part of a long lineage, which although seemingly indistinguishable from the model that first made its name, has been tweaked over the years to provide an even more beautifully crafted instrument.
Over the last iteration, the 2012 model has been upgrade with vintage-looking aged plastic parts and a set of three Fender Custom Shop Fat ’50s pickups, providing a fuller sound than ever before, whilst retaining the core tone that the Strat is recognised for.
Tonally Beefy, Physically Lithe
A medium-weight tonewood, alder brings beefy lows and sizzling highs, whilst being easy to handle. The alder body of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster has been crafted to the iconic shape and coated with a 3-Colour Sunburst urethane finish atop a thinner undercoat that allows the wood to breathe easier, whilst the topcoat protects and gives a classic vibe. The colour of the finish is matched nicely by a 3-ply parchment pickguard, which itself is accented by aged white plastic controls and an aged white switch tip.
Pleasantly Playable Playing Surface
Bolted into the body with a four-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt adjustment, is a maple neck, which is carved to the highly playable modern "C" profile that is made even more enjoy to hold by the satin urethane finish.
Making for an equally pleasurable playing surface is the 22 medium-jumbo fretted, 9.5” radius rosewood fingerboard, furnished with pearloid dot position inlays. Of special note here is the fingerboards rolled edges, which make for a surface that already feels broken in, and instantly comfortable under the fingers.
What’s in a Scale Length?
At the top of the fingerboard you’ll find a synthetic bone nut, with a width of 1.685” (42.8 mm), while making up the rest of the 25.5" (648 mm) scale length (in addition to the neck) is a 2-point synchronized tremolo bridge with bent steel saddles and a copper-infused block, which all together brings incredible sustain and intonation, whilst remaining easy to adjust, and offering a tremolo action that is more fluid than ever.
The Bigger the Better - Custom Shop Fat '50s Single-Coils
An upgrade found on this 2012 version of the Fender American Standard Stratocaster Electric Guitar is the three Custom Shop Fat '50s single-coil Strat pickups. With enhanced bass response, without any harsh mid-range, these hotter pickups offer a fuller, warmer sound than standard pickups.
