The 2012 Fender American Standard Telecaster brings with it the same attributes that have made it a classic for decades but have also added a few upgrades to ensure its relevancy and to continually improve the model. The back of the body has seen a new contour, while the pickups have been switched to give improved tonality.
Of course, with any change there will be naysayers, especially a change to an iconic body shape, but in this case it is only subtle. The body is still constructed of alder and the top is unchanged, but the back of the guitar now has a contour that makes it more comfortable for seated playing in particular, as the body no longer digs into you.
Secured into the body via a four-bolt neck plate with Micro-Tilt adjustment, the maple neck of the Fender American Standard Telecaster is designed for comfort and performance; with the Modern C shape profile and satin finish contributing smooth playability.
Furthermore, the playing surface is just as comfortable, as the 9.5"-radius rosewood fingerboard features rolled edges, which give the feel of a well-played, broken-in instrument. This is complimented further by 22 medium jumbo frets and white dot position inlays.
At the top of the neck you will find a 1.685" (42.8 mm)-wide synthetic bone nut, while at the other a 6-saddle American Standard strings-through-body Tele bridge with bent steel saddles and a Fender-stamped brass plate resides, ensuring the instrument’s incredible intonation, sustain, and ease of adjustment.
New Pickups, Classic Sound
Although a new pair of pickups has been put in place, the voice of the Tele is very much still in aboard, thanks to the Custom Shop single-coil Broadcaster pickup in the bridge position. This is joined by a Custom Shop "Twisted" Tele single-coil pickup in the neck position, which, with its higher output, is ready to give you a beefier boost.
Keeping things traditional, the Fender American Standard Telecaster provides the standard 3-position pickup selector blade, and master volume and tone controls configuration. A little extra has been added however, as the tone control has no-load circuitry built-in, which, when the tone control knob is dialled to 10, cuts the tone control from the circuit completely, leaving the pure, unadjusted tone of the pickups to sound through.
The Fender American Standard Telecaster comes supplied with hardcase, with an interior that is purpose-built to house the luscious form of the Fender American Standard Telecaster; protecting it from harm and making it easier to transport. Also supplied with the guitar is a cable, strap, and polishing cloth.
