Cross-genre player, Chris Shiflett, has camps in both punk/hard rock, with mega-band Foo Fighters, and in country, with his own band, Chris Shiflett & the Dead Peasants. As a player of both genres his signature model was never going to be anything other than a Tele’, though, of course, he was always going to have something to say about how it was going to be set up.
The resulting instrument, the Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe, has been closely-modelled on the artist’s own '72 Tele' Deluxe and features a pair of his very own signature humbuckers, along with some nice appointments along the way.
As mentioned above, the Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe has been detailed using Shiflett’s own model as a mould, thus the tonally balanced alder body has been shaped to the sleek '72 Tele' Deluxe profile. Coating this is a new finish to the model, Shoreline Gold, which is an inspired choice, giving the instrument an understated elegance, whilst still letting everyone know it can kick some serious behind. This is matched perfectly with a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard and black skirted amp control knobs.
Solid and Smooth
The Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe’s single-piece maple neck is kept firmly in place with an ‘F’ stamped 3-bolt neck plate with MicroTilt. The construction of this, along with its C-Shape profiling, give the neck a feeling of solidness, while the urethane finish make moving up and down the neck a smooth experience.
Working in partnership with the neck, to provide an incredible playing experience, is a rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium-jumbo frets and dot position inlays. This fingerboard boasts a 12-inch radius; larger than the usual 9-inches this provides a lower action that string benders will appreciate.
Large Headstock, Vintage Bridge
The Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe incorporates another ‘70s design classic, with the inclusion of a larger, ‘70s-style headstock that’s sure to turn a few heads, this is also adorned with Shiflett’s signature at the rear. This is equipped with a set of vintage "F" stamped tuning machines and is also where you’ll find a bullet-style rod nut. Providing steadfast intonation is the classic 6-saddle vintage-style Strat strings-through-body hardtail bridge.
CS1 and CS2 Humbuckers
To get the Fender Chris Shiflett Telecaster Deluxe sounding just right, the guitar has had custom designed humbuckers fitted that even bare the artist’s initials, the high output CS1 and CS2. Finite control over these is afforded by a 3-way pickup selector switch and 2 volume/2 tone skirted amp knobs.
