With more beauty and a better build than ever, the Fender Coronado is back. Made popular in the mid to late 1960s, the Coronado family was Fender's first journey into the world of hollow-body electric guitars. Delivering a stunning tone and unique looks, these amazing guitars are given a new lease of life for today’s players to enjoy.
A Rare Guitar Reimagined
The resulting instrument from the resurrection of the Coronado is a guitar of barely contained cool, beautiful design, and amazing tone. Packed full of features, you have: dual Fideli’Tron humbucking pickups, a thin semi-hollow body with F holes and a tasteful binding, a unique headstock, and a vintage-style bridge and tailpiece.
The beautifully bulbous shape of the Fender Coronado’s body contrasting with the thinness of the guitar’s neck is one of those design quandaries that shouldn’t work but somehow… does. Also, while it may at first glance seem hard to play, it is surprisingly comfortable, especially with the thinner depth of the body, which has also been enhanced with an alder centre-block, which helps to increase sustain and reduce feedback susceptibility.
The body has been finished off nicely with a Three Colour Sunburst gloss polyester, along with extra design trimmings that complete the aesthetics package. These include: dual bound F holes and a bound top and back.
Maple Neck, Bound Rosewood Fingerboard
The elegance of the body has been continued through to the design of the Fender Coronado’s neck. Carved from maple to the comfortable C Shape profile, it has been finished with gloss polyester and is kept securely in place by the 4-bolt neck plate. Atop this lies a 9.5” radius rosewood fingerboard with 21 medium jumbo frets and retro pearloid block inlays, along with a white binding.
To capture that beautiful and rich 60s sound, the Fender Coronado comes with dual Fideli'Tron humbucking pickups, one in the bridge position and one in the neck. To give you total control over the sound, you have a 3-way positional switch and volume and tone knobs for each pickup.
More Fantastic Features
Other fantastic features on the Coronado include an Adjusto-Matic bridge with floating "F" trapeze tailpiece, chrome hardware, vintage-style skirted control knobs, and a 3-ply black pickguard.
