For incredible tone, sonic dexterity, supreme versatility and sheer playability look no further than the Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster, with its three Texas Special single-coil pickups, V6 rotary switch, and S-1 switch, in addition to the usual suspects. Not only does this instrument pack all this into one Strat-shaped slab of wood, it also manages to look incredible, with an old school, vintage charm that almost masks what this machine is capable of… almost.
A Body You’ll Want to Hug
It all starts with a slab of alder, lovingly whittled to the iconic Stratocaster shape, which is contoured for both aesthetics and comfort, with curves that allow easy access all the way up to the top frets and even a belly cut to wedge yourself in nice and close for intricate riffs or just for hugs, which will inevitably happen when you play the Deluxe Roadhouse Strat.
This has been coated in a really rather tasteful Three Tier Sunburst gloss polyester finish and is joined by an equally delectable 4-ply aged white pearloid pickguard and aged white plastic control knobs and switch tip, to give a full complement of vintage components.
Classically Comfortable Neck
Classic components continue with a maple neck that has been fixed to the body and kept in place by a 4-bolt standard neck plate. Shaped to the exceptionally comfortable Modern C profile, the neck has been made even more playable and better looking by the application of a gloss urethane finish and light tinting. Also making up the guitar’s 25.5” scale length is a 22 medium jumbo fret rosewood fingerboard, which has a 9.5” radius and is laid out with easy to navigate white dot position inlays.
Above the neck is a notable vintage addition; a large, ‘70s-style headstock and logo decal, along with dual wing string trees. The headstock is armed with standard cast tuners, while at the other end is a vintage-style synchronised tremolo bridge. Chrome hardware can be found throughout.
As mentioned earlier, the Fender Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster takes the classic Strat fare of three single coils, 5-way pickup selector, and a master and two volume controls, and supercharges it.
This model swaps out the usual pickups with three Texas Special single-coil pickups for their extended sonic range and higher output, and pairs them with a special V6 rotary switch, disguised as a middle tone control, which gives access to six on-board preamp tones.
This is where the S-1 switch comes into play. Another hidden extra, as it is built into the volume control, the S-1 bypasses the preamp to bring you right back to classic Strat tone.
