Since 1946, Fender have been at the fore of guitar manufacturing, and some years later in 1954, the historic Fender Strat was born with a later addition of the innovative tremolo bridge. Since the Fender Strat came into the world, the way guitars were made, seen and heard completely changed. Jimi Hendrix is one of the most famous Strat players we have ever seen, and he made some unique custom adjustments which this new tribute guitar imitates beautifully.
Around the earlier stages of Hendrix’s hey day, he was known for re-stringing his Strat in reverse and then play upside down which suited his left handed playing technique, and it also produced a very individual sound which was fierce and ultimately unique at the time. Many guitarists have since tried their best to emanate the influential and subversive Hendrix melodies, however the Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat has been designed to include many of those exclusive stand-out features for a modern wave of guitarists to do so.
SLEEK STRAT DESIGN
Like many of the American series, the Jimi Hendrix Strat body is constructed out of alder which is known to be a lightweight and tonally balanced wood, thus having a thoroughly comfortable playing feel. The modern “C” profile neck and fingerboard are both made from maple wood and are given a gloss polyester finish for smooth gliding along its 21 medium jumbo frets that are adorned with black dot position inlays. Every fret is easily accessible thanks to the classic double cutaway Strat body style. The neck has a 9.5 inch radius which has a flatter feel allowing you to play more complicated chords and bend notes with ease.
SIGNATURE DESIGN FEATURES
In keeping with a Hendrix style Strat, Fender have reproduced some of his original guitar’s most recognisable attributes which gives it a real signature feel. The most obvious similarity that you notice when you see the Jimi Hendrix Strat is the “flipped-over” authentic reverse headstock and bridge pickup. This simulates Hendrix’s tendency to literally flip over the bridge pickup and 70s headstock; it allowed for him to alter the strings length to create a unique sound, and it also added a thickness to the treble and warmth to the bass.
The back of the headstock features a stylish yet legendary Hendrix signature to give this Strat an up to date, authentic feel. At the back of the body, there is a specially engraved neck plate with an “authentic Hendrix” shoulders-up illustration of the man himself for a personalised touch to the guitar.
AMERICAN VINTAGE 65 PICKUPS
Jimi Hendrix was known for a fiery electric tone, hence Fender have employed three single coil American Vintage '65 Gray-Bottom Strat pickups for the neck, middle and bridge to emulate his most honoured sound. The slanted bridge pickup enhances and defines the guitar’s overall tone and harmonics.
A 5-way pickup switch blade gives you huge sound scope to experiment with so that you can adjust your tone to suit your playing needs.
The Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat carries a 6-saddle vintage-style tremolo bridge, which creates an impeccable connection between the strings and body for optimum stability when playing while it also offers superior intonation, and allows you to add understated vibrato thanks to the tremolo arm. The large 70s style headstock carries Vintage Style tuning keys, while the body has a white pickguard with aged white plastic control knobs offering a mature finish.
To help you keep your Jimi Hendrix model in the best condition, Fender have included a gig bag to protect it whether on the road or in storage. For any aspiring rock guitarist, the Fender Jimi Hendrix Strat is an affordable must have whether you’re looking to mirror the everlasting sound of this ultimate guitar God or just add to your arsenal.
