Fxpansion BFD Eco is a streamlined, fun and affordable software instrument for acoustic drums, based on the award-winning BFD2 engine. Supplied with a selection of the best BFD2 sounds, it can also be expanded with the wide range of FXpansion and 3rd-party add-ons.
BFD Eco's versatile mixing and EQ/FX section allows sculpting of the kit and the lush ambience for any musical situation, with a multitude of genre-based presets to get you started. Meanwhile, the integrated Groove player delivers diverse, ready-made drum patterns full of flavour and realism.
Featuring an interface perfectly balanced between ease of use and flexibility, BFD Eco is provided as a standalone application and as a plugin for conveniently injecting realistic and powerful drums directly into your projects.
BFD Eco gives you easy access to the some of the best sounds in the BFD2 library, recorded at London's Air Studios. The included sounds are full of dramatic levels of detail and mojo... Anything but sterile, BFD Eco is imbued with a musical character that sets it apart from the homogenized, flat sounds found elsewhere.
Included are a multitude of presets that showcase BFD Eco's powerful, punchy-sounding mixing section. The EQ and dynamics/effect processing allow you to sculpt the raw sounds and lush stereo ambience for any situation. DCAM circuit-modelled compression, filtering and drive provide hardware-style tone and grit, while an integrated version of Overloud's Breverb plate algorithm can be used for artificial reverb effects.
BFD Eco also contains a Groove section containing over 1500 drum patterns to drag into your DAW, to sequence on the built-in Drum Track or to simply loop continuously. Preview patterns in sync with your project and use the humanization effects to adjust the feel to your needs. You can even export a stereo mixdown from the Groove engine - ideal for generating loops and breakbeats to use as audio tracks or in any sampler instrument.
Other advanced features that set BFD Eco apart from the competition are its customizable keymapping, electronic drum support, the ability to combine kit-pieces from different expansion libraries, and an interface perfectly balanced between ease of use and powerful flexibility. BFD Eco also can be upgraded to BFD2 - both are fully preset-compatible to enable a seamless transition.

My guitar teacher uses this software (for teaching and his band use). After having used it a few times, I was persuaded to buy it. It is the ideal software for me, as I can play very little on the drums, but this software is easy to use, and can add a realistic drum sound to whatever you are trying to achieve. I use this mainly to compose my own songs, and sometimes to make convincing covers of songs from other people/bands. It is all I could ask for from drum software. Varied, realistic and easy to use.

It’s a big improvement over BFD1 with enhanced options in mic placement and room size. With this you get a great selection of Kit pieces which can be used on most genres of music and can also purchase add-on kits (which are sometimes on offer from fxpansions website).
I don't use the grooves too much as I tend to manually enter my drums tracks with MIDI, but either option is easy to use, and once you have you beat down there is not much need in terms of mixing as the samples are so well recorded.
It’s a great product and I'm sure you will want to take advantage of the upgrade path after a while!
