Brand new for 2015, the Gibson 1963 ES-335TD Figured VOS electric guitar which has a stunning semi-hollow profile and smooth Historic Burst finish. It draws influence from the construction of original models released in the early 60s so it looks, feels and sounds incredibly authentic. This new adaptation of the 1963 ES-335TD brings a classic model right up to date for the modern guitarist.
ARCHETYPAL 1963 ES-335 BODY
The semi-hollow profile and slim taper cutaways of the Gibson ES-335TD body give this model its iconic appearance. Gibson have employed 3-ply maple/poplar/maple to construct the top, back and sides of the 2015 model which enables it to generate that awesome, warm tone that we know and love from the ES-335. The guitar resonates with absolute freedom thanks to the hollow airspace of the body and the F-holes that are cut into the top. The quartered Adirondack Spruce bracing and lightweight centreblocks further contribute to a fantastic vintage Gibson tone while also offering a comfortable playing experience.
The ES-335 in Historic Burst recreates the luxurious finish of the model of the early 60s, that is protected and preserved by smooth hi-gloss 90 sheen lacquer that is completed in vintage original specification (V.O.S.).
Firmly joined to the 3-ply body via a traditional Mortis and Tenon joint is a single-piece mahogany neck which is shaped to the timeless yet historic 1963 profile. Married to the neck is a 22-fret rosewood fingerboard which is decorated with period-correct celluloid block inlays. Rolled neck binding rounds off the edges of each fret, guaranteeing effortless transitions along the fretboard, enhancing the overall playing feel.
MHS HUMBUCKER PICKUPS
Gibson have gone the extra mile to try and recreate that classic tone by means of fitting PAF-style Memphis Historic Spec (MHS) humbucker pickups. The neck pickup is powered by an Alnico III magnet, offering a fat, warm output produced by the body. The bridge pickup is powered by an Alnico II magnet, offering some sizzle that breaks up when given a push of overdrive. The enamel wiring in the MHS humbuckers is scatter wound so that each model develops its own individual character over time.
HARDWARE AND ELECTRONICS
The team at Gibson Memphis have chosen some important, customary appointments to make the ES-335 incredibly impressive.
The headstock is set to Gibson’s standard 17 degree angle which is often the case with a wide range of their guitars, and this design improves the guitar’s sustain and tonal depth, with a full-bodied resonance that you can really feel when you play.
The headstock is fitted with Kluson double ring tulip button tuners for accurate tuning integrity, and it is given the traditional Gibson logo in Mother of Pearl as well as the Mother of Pearl crown. The ES-335TD has the historic 1963 truss rod which enables you to easily adjust whenever you need to.
The body of the ES-335TD is equipped with a No-Wire ABR V.O.S. nickel-plated, die-cast alloy bridge, and V.O.S. nickel-plated aluminium lightweight stop bar tailpiece. The bridge and tailpiece form a robust partnership to ensure the connection between the strings and the body is in harmony with one another.
