Gibson have stood by the exact design and build of the original 1964 ES-345 model in the form of this reissue model. Including the Varitone switch that made this guitar stand out in the beginning and accompanied by some modern, upgraded appointments, this version of the 1964 ES-345 is still a classic.
The Gibson Memphis 1964 ES-345TDC maintains the traditional semi-hollowbody design with a lightweight maple centre-block to prevent any unwanted noise or feedback. The body is crafted from 3-ply maple/poplar/maple, which is held together by Franklin Titebond 50 adhesive, allowing the tonewood to express its typically bright voice. The body is finished in a luxurious Sixties Cherry that matches that of the original '64 model. A protective layer of smooth hi gloss 90 sheen lacquer finished to the vintage original spec gives the body its lustrous finish. This helps prevent unwanted or premature damage happening to the tonewood, allowing it to stand the test of time.
The smooth mahogany neck is shaped to the classic 1964 rounded "C" profile for a solid, comfortable playing feel in your hand. This slim profile facilitates playability and neck transition, feeling just like an original 1964 model. Topping the neck is a sumptuous 22-fret rosewood fingerboard decorated with the period-correct split parallelogram block inlays to guide you. The rolled fingerboard edges just make it all the better.
MHS HUMBUCKER PICKUPS
Gibson Memphis have kitted out the ES-345TDC with the MHS alnico humbucker pickups to obtain that desired, vintage PAF-style tone. With one in the bridge position and the other placed at the neck, you can alter from saturating hot hollowbody tones to fat, smooth rhythm tones.
The controls include standard Lead and Rhythm Volume and Tone pots for individual pickup control, combined with the 3-way pickup toggle switch to alter between pickups. However, the addition of the Varitone circuit opens up an even wider range of tones to experiment with, thanks to its six different notch filters.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
Fitted to the lower bout of the stunning ES-345TDC body is a traditional ABR-1 bridge with nylon saddles offering plenty of sustain and resonance. The Maestro tailpiece works beautifully with the ABR-1 bridge, adding eerie vibrato-style sounds whenever you choose.
The headstock features the vintage Kluson Single Ring Tulip Button tuners, plus the unmistakable Gibson crown and logo for a traditional look. Each model is shipped with a Gibson Memphis hardshell case to protect the ES-345TDC for many years to come, as well as a Certificate of Authenticity.
