The double-neck Gibson guitar is an iconic model thanks to guitar heroes who have played one, such as Jimmy Page from Led Zeppelin, to Alex Lifeson from Rush. These rock legends have played a huge part in making this guitar so famous throughout its history. Now, the luthiers at Gibson Custom have brought this classic back for 2016, with authentic, well-revered appointments seen on the original guitars which were released in the late 1950s.
DOUBLE NECK ARRANGEMENT
Needless to say, the double neck of the EDS-1275 is its most prominent feature. Originating from around 1958, the double neck was to become a legendary part of rock guitar history. Allowing you to play either on 6 strings or 12 strings was totally revolutionary, and binds two guitars into one to prevent having to switch guitars mid-song or perhaps even mid-performance, however it was designed with comfort and playability at the forefront of its creation.
The versatile necks are both constructed from maple and given an accurate EDS-1275 profile for an ultimately comfortable playing feel across both necks. Each neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard, holding 22 frets on each for you to explore. The frets are embellished with pearloid paralellogram inlays to guide you along each neck with confidence.
The body is crafted using a single-piece of hand-selected mahogany with an EDS-1275 classic contour. The fact that this tonewood has been handpicked ensures that the guitar feels incredibly light, but it also helps improve the overall tone.
CUSTOM BUCKER PICKUPS
For both the 6 and 12 string parts of the guitar, Gibson have fitted Custom Bucker pickups. The Custom Buckers are an accurate representation of the original PAF humbuckers that would have originally featured on some of the early Gibsons first released in the late 1950s and early 1960s. Each Custom Bucker pickup is powered by an Alnico III magnet with #42 enamel wiring for genuine, accurate PAF sound delivery.
To control the humbucker pickups, the guitar is fitted with two Volume and two Tone pots with black top hats and silver inserts.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
For enhanced sustain and intonation, the 2016 EDS-1275 is fitted with a nickel ABR-1 bridge with wire retainer, joined by a nickel claw tailpiece for a strong hold on every string from both necks. The headstock features Kluson deluxe double band steel tuning keys with a 12:01 gear ratio which allows for incredible tuning precision.
Where each neck meets the body, Gibson have put on a black pickguard with a standard 45 degree bevel to protect against scratches and visually complement the guitar itself.
The 2016 EDS-1275 Double Neck electric guitar comes with a black, hard case with a pink interior as well as the Gibson Custom Certificate of Authenticity.
