Gibson have masterfully crafted the 2016 ES-335 Studio model to fuse together the best features of a solidbody and hollowbody guitar to bring you this superb semi-hollow guitar. The ES-335 has an iconic body shape which has been recognised since its creation in 1958. With customary “F” cutaway holes, the ES-335 offers a rich wealth of tones as well as having a unique appearance. The 2016 ES-335 is certainly great value for your money if you’re looking to boost your guitar collection.
CLASSIC ES BODY
The shape of the ES-335 is distinctive among its peer models in sound and appearance. The 2016 model offers that same level of fantastic, semi-acoustic tone. The “F” cutaways in the body enhance its presence, and allows sound waves to travel freely from within the hollow airspace beneath the guitar and then out through the cutaway holes. The body is further reinforced by a maple centreblock and spruce bracing.
3-ply maple is used to construct the top, back and rims of the 2016 ES-335 Studio as it is well-known for its contribution to crystal clear, tight tone qualities. This particular model has been given a vintage Wine Red finish using the Hi Gloss 90 Sheen Lacquer that is also used on the higher end models.
Gibson have fitted a one piece maple neck to the 2016 ES-335 Studio guitar, offering a reliable, comfortable playing feel. The maple neck is shaped to a soft “C” profile and equipped with a modern truss rod. The black Corian nut fitted to the neck is a key feature in providing more sustain and overall sound clarity.
Aboard the neck is a 22-fret black bound rosewood fingerboard made with torrefied maple which looks and feels great as you play. Classic pearloid dot inlays decorate the frets, making this 2016 model not too dissimilar from the very first ES-335 models ever to be released.
57 CLASSIC AND SUPER 57 PICKUPS
To amplify your sound with precision, Gibson equipped the 2016 ES-335 Studio with 57 Classic and Super 57 pickups. These pickups have the ability to reproduce the vintage PAF (Patent Applied For) tone that has been widely recognised over the years when hearing a Gibson. The pickups have matched coil windings and are wax potted to minimise any feedback. This pairing allows you to recreate a quintessential humbucking sound.
The 2016 ES-335 Volume and Tone controls have been upgraded to the traditional four-knob setup, so you can effortlessly shape your sound.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
The ABR-1 bridge is incredibly reliable, hence why it has been employed for the ES-335 studio. It is also joined by a stop bar tailpiece, increasing overall sustain and resonance.
Grover Rotomatic tuners sit at either side of the headstock to uphold tuning integrity with precision and simplicity.
Although the Gibson 2016 ES-335 Studio electric guitar may fall into a more economical price bracket, Gibson have made sure that all the premium appointments are not compromised. Furthermore, a black hard shell case is included, along with a Gibson Memphis Certificate of Authenticity.
