The Gibson 2016 ES-339 Studio is based on its bigger brother, the ES-335 model, but given smaller dimensions for a more comfortable playing feel. The ES-339 Studio is a semi-hollow guitar enabling you to get the best of both worlds that you would usually see individually in the form of either a solidbody or hollowbody. In a fiery Ginger Burst finish, the ES-339 is completely alluring from the moment you lay your eyes on it.
The Gibson Memphis ES-339 Studio takes the classic ES-335 body frame and reduces its size, giving it a more compact, comfortable playing feel. The “F” cutaway holes in the body are a paradigmatic feature of the ES-339 Studio, and a feature which is instantly recognisable in this Gibson Memphis series of guitars. The “F” shape holes are significant in producing that semi-acoustic tone, allowing the guitar to resonate freely within its semi-hollow airspace, and are not just there to make the guitar look extra elegant.
3-ply maple makes up the construction of the top, back and sides of the ES-339 Studio and helps induce a range of bright tones. To strengthen the body of the guitar and simultaneously improve its resonance, it features a maple centreblock and spruce bracing underneath. Gibson Memphis have chosen a warm, Ginger Burst finish using a high-gloss nitrocellulose lacquer to protect the wonderful blend of colours; it is then completed by the black binding at the edges.
Gibson Memphis have employed maple to construct the neck of the ES-339 Studio guitar. The neck is made of just one piece of wood and offers optimum strength as you play. With a soft “C” profile and modern truss rod, it has an incredibly comfortable feel in your hand. A significant feature of the neck is the black Corian nut, which seamlessly enhances sustain and sound clarity.
Married to the neck is a 22-fret black bound torrefied maple fingerboard with rolled edges to promote a smooth playing feel. Pearloid dot inlays decorate the frets just like the original ES-335 models of yesteryear, guiding you along the neck with confidence.
57 CLASSIC AND SUPER 57 PICKUPS
Gibson have chosen 57 Classic and Super 57 pickups to amplify the ES-339 Studio model, thanks to their ability to take us back to that vintage PAF tone. The pickups are given matched coil windings and are wax potted to completely reduce any possible feedback noise. With incredibly bright and intensified highs, the 57 Classic and Super 57 pickups are a fantastic pair of humbuckers.
Gibson Memphis elected to upgrade to the traditional four-knob Volume and Tone control dials on the ES-339 Studio model, allowing you to shape your sound with ease.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
A durable ABR-1 style bridge is fitted to the ES-339 Studio and accompanied by a stop bar tailpiece to increase sustain and resonance.
The headstock is equipped with sturdy Grover Rotomatic tuners to uphold tuning integrity among the strings with accuracy and precision.
Festooned with its stunning, gloss Ginger Burst finish, Gibson are aware that it’s vital to look after your new axe properly. As such, Gibson include a tan hard shell case for you to protect the guitar, and it also comes with a Gibson Memphis Certificate of Authenticity.
