The glorious Gibson Explorer is back with a bang for 2016 and is packed with all of the vintage features we expect from this exquisite electric guitar but with a modern twist. The history of the Gibson Explorer guitar began in 1958, and it has long since been recognised as one of the most radical models that Gibson have ever designed thanks to its angled, asymmetrical body profile. It was a futuristic model even at the time of its introduction, and has since become a collectible, as well as being a preferred axe of choice for many famous musicians such as The Edge of U2 and James Hetfield of Metallica.
MAGNIFICENT MAHOGANY TONEWOOD
Keeping in line with previous models, the 2016 Explorer Traditional has a body constructed entirely of solid mahogany which is a tonewood known to give a punchy projection with optimum depth and sustain. The contoured body has a slender, lightweight feel so it is comfortable to play whether you’re sitting, standing, or absolutely going for it on the stage like a true Explorer-wielding artist!
SLIM MAHOGANY NECK
Accompanying the solid, angular body is a sublime mahogany neck which has a rounded yet slim profile which promotes faster playability. The weight is balanced perfectly between the mahogany neck and body so you will find it so comfortable to play throughout any live performance.
Partnering the slim, mahogany neck is a sumptuous, thicker one-piece rosewood 22-fret fingerboard which has been hand-rubbed with oil for a slick finish, and embellished with traditional Pearloid Dot inlays to guide you up and down the frets with ease. The neck has been designed with speed of play in mind.
The 2016 Explorer has been equipped with two totally smoking humbucker pickups, the 496R Hot Ceramic and 500T Super Ceramic. These pickups are employed to ensure that the darker tones are still present, combined with meaty low end to a multiplex of mid-range tones. Both pickups have ceramic magnets, with the 496R placed at the neck and the 500T at the bridge. From clean and crisp to heavily distorted, each and every note is filled with the clarity and articulation.
HARDWARE AND FINISH
The body is fitted with a Tune-o-Matic bridge and traditional stopbar tailpiece which work together to ensure a flawless connection between the strings and body for accurate intonation and action. Grover tuners are fitted to the headstock to ensure that tuning integrity is maintained with outright precision, allowing you to play as enthusiastically as possible without falling out of tune.
The Gibson 2016 Explorer Traditional is an absolute powerhouse of hard rock guitars and has excellent tonality that can sway from the delicate and subtle to the fierce and merciless. The perfect weight distribution between the body and neck ensure that the guitar is comfortable to play without causing any backache, so you can rock out for hours on end.
To keep your new Explorer axe safe and in the best condition, Gibson have supplied a gig bag so you can take it on the road with confidence.
